Kun Khmer or Pradal serey is an ancient Cambodian variation of Kick boxing, dating back to the Khmer Empire in the 9th century AD. A total of 19 medals were awarded. The sport marked its debut at the SEA Games, however a similar sport named Muay Thai was contested in earlier editions. Thai athletes protested over the use of the term 'Kun Khmer' over 'Muay Thai'. The International Federation of Muaythai Associations boycotted the events and Thai athletes decided not to take part in the games under the name 'Kun Khmer'. Morodok Techo National Stadium
The Morodok Techo National Stadium ( km, កីឡដ្ឋានជាតិមរតកតេជោ) is a football and athletics stadium in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. It is the main venue of the larger Morodok Techo National Sports Complex. Construction The Morodok Techo National Sports Complex, which includes the main stadium, was constructed specifically for Cambodia's hosting of the 2023 Southeast Asian Games. Construction of the sports complex began in April 2013 while the construction of the main stadium began in August 2017. The groundbreaking ceremony for the stadium was held earlier on April 4, 2017. The Chinese government provided 1.1 billion Chinese yuan (about $160 million) aid for the construction of the stadium which was developed by the China State Construction Engineering Corporation. The sport consists of stand up striking and clinch fighting where the objective is to knock an opponent out, force a technical knockout, or win a match by points. Pradal Serey is most well known for its kicking technique, which generates power from hip rotation rather than snapping the leg. Pradal Serey consists of four types of strikes: punches, kicks, elbows and knee strikes. The clinch is used to wear down the opponent. In the clinch, opponents battle for dominant position for short range strikes by way of elbows and knees. Prom Samnang ( km, ព្រំ សំណាង), (born 9 September 1986) is a Cambodian Kun Khmer fighter and is one of the most successful Kun Khmer fighters in Cambodia. In 2023, Samnang won the Thai Fight Kard Chuek championship title in Thailand. At the 2023 SEA Games, Samnang was the flag bearer for Cambodia at the opening ceremony and won the gold medal against Tun Tun Min in the Khun Khmer Men's 81kg division. Tun Tun Min ( my, ထွန်းထွန်းမင်း; born 4 October 1992) is a Burmese Lethwei fighter and former Openweight Lethwei World Champion of Mon descent. He is the youngest fighter to ever win the Lethwei Golden Belt, obtaining the title at age 21, and is notable for fighting foreign challengers from outside Myanmar.
