Kris Kristofferson
Kristoffer Kristofferson (born June 22, 1936) is a retired American singer, songwriter and actor. Among his songwriting credits are "Me and Bobby McGee", " For the Good Times", "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down", and "Help Me Make It Through the Night", all of which were hits for other artists. In 1985, Kristofferson joined fellow country artists Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash in the country music supergroup The Highwaymen, which was a key creative force in the outlaw country music movement that eschewed the traditional Nashville country music machine in favor of independent songwriting and producing. New West Records is a record label based in Nashville, Tennessee, and Athens, Georgia. It had offices in Burbank, California, and Beverly Hills, California. ''This Old Road'' is an album by Kris Kristofferson, released in 2006 on New West Records. The underlying theme of the record is a retrospective and reflective look at what Kristofferson deems to have been important elements of his life. It was his first album of new material since 1995's ''A Moment of Forever'', which was also produced by Don Was. Kristofferson re-recorded three of his songs for the album. Atlantic Recording Corporation (simply known as Atlantic Records) is an American record label founded in October 1947 by Ahmet Ertegun and Herb Abramson. Over its first 20 years of operation, Atlantic earned a reputation as one of the most important American labels, specializing in jazz, R&B, and soul by Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Wilson Pickett, Sam and Dave, Ruth Brown and Otis Redding. ''A Moment of Forever'' is an album by Kris Kristofferson, released on Justice Records, an independent record label, in 1995 (see 1995 in music). His first studio album of original material since the relatively unsuccessful political record '' Third World Warrior'' (1990), it features several well-known studio musicians, including Jim Keltner and Benmont Tench. ''Third World Warrior'' is an album by Kris Kristofferson, released on Mercury Records in 1990 (see 1990 in music). It is a concept album composed of topical songs on politics, primarily expressing left-wing support. The album was commercially unsuccessful, due in part to Kristofferson's declining career as a singer and the release of The Highwaymen's second album, ''Highwayman 2'', the week before. Kristofferson expressed support for Nelson Mandela and the Sandinista National Liberation Front; not long prior to the album's release, Mandela was freed from prison and the Sandinistas were defeated in elections, transferring power to the National Opposition Union. Mercury Records is an American record label owned by Universal Music Group. It had significant success as an independent operation in the 1940s and 1950s. Smash Records and Fontana Records were sub labels of Mercury. ''Repossessed'' is an album by Kris Kristofferson, released on Mercury Records in 1986 (see 1986 in music). It was Kristofferson's first full-length solo album since 1981's '' To the Bone'', although the singer did collaborate with other artists in the meantime, most notably on ''Highwayman'' with Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. Background Kristofferson's career hit a wall at the start of the 1980s. In the second half of the previous decade, his recording career had been on a steady downward slope, and the release of the film ''Heaven's Gate'' in 1980 torpedoed his film career. His turbulent marriage to singer Rita Coolidge came to an end in December 1979, and his record label for ten years, Monument, went under.
