Hermann Kreß
__NOTOC__ Hermann Kreß (23 July 1895 – 11 August 1943) was a German Generalleutnant during World War II who commanded the 4th Mountain Division. In 1938 Kreß was appointed to command the 1st Mountain Division's 99th Regiment. He led the regiment until 1943, receiving the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross in December 1941 while serving on the Eastern Front. After heavy losses to the 1st Mountain Division, he was given command of the 4th Mountain Division which he led as part of the XXXXIX Mountain Corps in the Battle of the Caucasus. Kreß was killed by a Soviet sniper on 11 August 1943, near Novorossiysk on the Kuban bridgehead. Willibald Kreß (13 November 1906 – 27 January 1989) was a German footballer who participated at the 1934 FIFA World Cup. Club career Kreß played club football with Rot-Weiß Frankfurt and Dresdner SC. Friedrich Siegmund Georg Freiherr Kress von Kressenstein (also ; 24 April 1870 – 16 October 1948) was a German general from Nuremberg. He was a member of the group of German officers who assisted in the direction of the Ottoman Army during World War I. Kress von Kressenstein was part of the military mission of Otto Liman von Sanders to the Ottoman Empire, which arrived shortly before World War I broke out. He was also the main leader for the Ottoman Desert Command Force (DCF). Early life Kress came from a patrician family in Nuremberg. His father, Georg Kress von Kressenstein (1840–1911), was a high court judge. Kress von Kressenstein joined the Bavarian army as an ensign in the artillery in 1888. He was appointed as Second Lieutenant on 6 March 1890. On 1 October 1895, he joined the Bavarian War Academy and graduated in September 1898. He continued his general staff education until 1914. Paul Otto Felix Freiherr Kreß von Kressenstein (13 September 1850 – 19 February 1929) was a Bavarian Colonel General and Minister of War from 16 February 1912 to 7 December 1916. Biography Kreß von Kressenstein came from the old Nuremberg patrician family Kreß von Kressenstein . According to the dance statute, the family was one of the new lines eligible to participate in government in the free imperial city and was represented on the city council for centuries. Kreß von Kressenstein was born in Germersheim. After joining the Bavarian cadet corps he served as an officer candidate in the 2nd Royal Bavarian Chevauleger Regiment. He served in the Franco-Prussian War with the rank of a Lieutenant. From 1874 to 1877 he visited the Bavarian Kriegsakademie (''war academy'') in Munich.
