Kretania Sephirus
''Kretania sephirus'', previously known as ''Plebejus sephirus'', is a species of butterfly that belongs to the family Lycaenidae. It is found in Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Asia Minor. The species is part of a species complex, with many members of the complex using variations of the name zephyr blue, including ''pylaon'', '' trappi'', and '' hesperica''. The species, which previously belonged to the genus ''Plebejus'', was moved to the genus '' Kretania'' following a 2013 molecular phylogenetics study of the subtribe Polyommatina. Many ''sephirus'' populations are threatened, and are legally protected in some countries, such as Hungary. Description From Adalbert Seitz Friedrich Joseph Adalbert Seitz, (24 February 1860 in Mainz – 5 March 1938 in Darmstadt) was a German physician and entomologist who specialised in Lepidoptera. He was a director of the Frankfurt zoo from 1893 to 1908 and is best known for e ...'s ''Die Großschmetterlinge des palaearktischen Fauneng ...

Galičica
Galičica ( mk, , sq, Mali i Thatë) is a mountain situated across the border between North Macedonia and Albania. There is a national park on North Macedonia's side of the mountain, situated between the two biggest lakes in the republic: Lake Ohrid and Lake Prespa. It stretches over an area of . The floral life in the Galičica National Park represents over 1600 species, of which many relicts and endems have the final frontier of its range exactly on the mountain Galičica. There is characteristically presence of up to now 13 discovered local endems on North Macedonian side to be found exclusively on the slopes of Galičica and nowhere else, this illustrates the specifically floristic composition of this mountain. At the moment, it is intensively worked on the flora of the National Park and there are indications that the number of endems will be even bigger. Views of the lakes and neighbouring mountains can be seen from the Galičica peaks. The second-highest peak is Magaro (2,2 ...

Plebejus
''Plebejus'' is a genus of butterflies in the family Lycaenidae. Its species are found in the Palearctic and Nearctic realms. Taxonomy As a result of studies of molecular phylogenetics, numerous species that were included in ''Plebejus'' by some authors at the beginning of the 21st century have now been moved to separate genera again. These species may be found in ''Afarsia'', ''Alpherakya'', '' Agriades'', '' Aricia'', ''Eumedonia'', ''Icaricia'', ''Kretania'', '' Maurus'', ''Pamiria'', '' Patricius'', '' Plebejidea'', '' Plebulina'', and ''Rueckbeilia''. Species Species include: The ''ardis'' species-group: * ''Plebejus eversmanni'' (Lang, 1884) Kopet-Dagh, Ghissar, Darvaz, Pamirs-Alai, Tian-Shan, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan * ''Plebejus baroghila'' (Tytler, 1926) Himalayas * ''Plebejus firuskuhi'' (Forster, 1940) Afghanistan * ''Plebejus kwaja'' (Evans, 1932) Baluchistan The ''argus'' species-group: * ''Plebejus aegidion'' (Gerhard, 1851) Central Asia * ''Plebejus argus'' (Li ...

Astragalus Exscapus
''Astragalus'' is a large genus of over 3,000 species of herbs and small shrubs, belonging to the legume family Fabaceae and the subfamily Faboideae. It is the largest genus of plants in terms of described species. The genus is native to temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere. Common names include milkvetch (most species), locoweed (in North America, some species) and goat's-thorn ( ''A. gummifer'', ''A. tragacantha''). Some pale-flowered vetches (''Vicia'' spp.) are similar in appearance, but they are more vine-like than ''Astragalus''. Description Most species in the genus have pinnately compound leaves. There are annual and perennial species. The flowers are formed in clusters in a raceme, each flower typical of the legume family, with three types of petals: banner, wings, and keel. The calyx is tubular or bell-shaped. Ecology ''Astragalus'' species are used as food plants by the larvae of some Lepidoptera species including many case-bearing moths of the ge ...

Lycaena Pylaon
''Kretania pylaon'', the zephyr blue, is a butterfly in the family Lycaenidae. It is found in southern Russia and the Middle East to Iran. The habitat consists of dry habitats. This species was considered to encompass a lot of subspecies across Europe and Asia, several of which are now generally viewed as distinct species, such as '' Kretania hesperica'' (Spain), '' K. trappi'' (Alps), '' K. sephirus'' (Eastern Europe, Caucasus, Asia Minor), '' K. zephyrinus'' (Caucasus, Central Asia), '' K. nicholli'' (Levant), and '' K. philbyi'' (Levant). The wingspan is 28–34 mm. Adults are on wing from May to July. The larvae feed on ''Astragalus'' species, including ''Astragalus exscapus'', '' Astragalus dasyanthus'', '' Astragalus parnassi cyllenus'', '' Astragalus angustifolius'' and '' Astragalus creticus rumelicus''. They are attended by ants of the '' Bothriomyrmex'', ''Tapinoma'', ''Lasius'', '' Camponotus'', ''Tetramorium'' and ''Formica ''Formica'' is a genus of ants of ...

Adalbert Seitz
Friedrich Joseph Adalbert Seitz, (24 February 1860 in Mainz – 5 March 1938 in Darmstadt) was a German physician and entomologist who specialised in Lepidoptera. He was a director of the Frankfurt zoo from 1893 to 1908 and is best known for editing the multivolume reference on the butterflies and larger moths of the world ''Die Gross-Schmetterlinge der Erde'' which continued after his death. Biography Seitz was born in Mainz and went to school in Aschaffenburg, Darmstadt and Bensheim. He studied medicine from 1880 to 1885 and then zoology at Giessen. His doctorate was on the protective devices of animals. He worked as an assistant in the maternity hospital of the University of Giessen and then worked as a ship's doctor from 1887, travelling to Australia, South America and Asia. He began to collect butterflies on these travels. In 1891 he habilitated in zoology with a thesis on the biology of butterflies from the University of Giessen. In 1893 he took up a position as a director ...

Molecular Phylogenetics
Molecular phylogenetics () is the branch of phylogeny that analyzes genetic, hereditary molecular differences, predominantly in DNA sequences, to gain information on an organism's evolutionary relationships. From these analyses, it is possible to determine the processes by which diversity among species has been achieved. The result of a molecular phylogenetic analysis is expressed in a phylogenetic tree. Molecular phylogenetics is one aspect of molecular systematics, a broader term that also includes the use of molecular data in taxonomy and biogeography. Molecular phylogenetics and molecular evolution correlate. Molecular evolution is the process of selective changes (mutations) at a molecular level (genes, proteins, etc.) throughout various branches in the tree of life (evolution). Molecular phylogenetics makes inferences of the evolutionary relationships that arise due to molecular evolution and results in the construction of a phylogenetic tree. History The theoretical frame ...
