Košice Children's Heritage Railway
The Košice Children's Heritage Railway (Slovak language, Slovak: ''Košická detská historická železnica'', KDHŽ) is a long single-track heritage railway with a track gauge of . The railway was opened on 20 September 1955 as a children's railway, pioneer railway near Košice in Slovakia and is still in operation today. It is located in the rural part of the city's Košice-Sever borough. The route is operated by the civic association ''Children's Railway Košice'' in close cooperation with the city of Košice and private partners. The route has three stations: Čermeľ (Čermeľ-Baránok), Vpred (Čermeľ-Vodáreň) and Alpinka (formerly Pioneer). The train journey takes about 20 minutes. The children's railway season starts traditionally on 1 May and usually lasts in late autumn. Spišská Nová Ves
Spišská Nová Ves (; ; ) is a town in the Košice Region of Slovakia. The town is located southeast of the High Tatras in the Spiš region, and lies on both banks of the Hornád River. It is the biggest town of the Spišská Nová Ves District. Tourist attractions nearby include the medieval town of Levoča, Spiš Castle and the Slovak Paradise National Park. Hronská Breznica () is a village and municipality of the Zvolen District in the Banská Bystrica Region of Slovakia. History In historical records, the village was first mentioned in 1424 (Berzenche). It belonged, in dither order, to Dobrá Niva, György Thurzó (16th century) and Banská Bystrica’s Chamber. Gelnica
Gelnica (, ) is a town in the Košice Region of Eastern Slovakia. It has a population of 6,076. Names The name comes from the name of the river Hnilec derived from Slavic word ''hnilý'' (rotten). The initial ''g'' in the German form ''Göllnitz'' indicates that the name was adopted by Germans before the spirantisation of Slavic ''g'' to ''h'' in Slovak (around the 12th century). The current Slovak name ''Gelnica'' comes from this secondary German form. The Hungarian ''Gölnicbánya'' (''bánya'' – mine) refers to the town's mining activity. A hopper car () or hopper wagon () is a type of railroad freight car that has opening doors or gates on the underside or on the sides to discharge its cargo. They are used to transport loose solid bulk commodities such as coal, ore, grain, and track ballast. Plastic pellets and some finely ground material, similar to flour, are transported in hopper cars that have pneumatic unloading. The bottom gates on the pneumatic hoppers connect to a hose attached to industrial facilities' storage tanks. Air is injected to fluidize the railcar contents for unloading. A flatcar (US) (also flat car, or flatbed) is a piece of rolling stock that consists of an open, flat deck mounted on trucks (US) or bogies (UK) at each end.
