Koma In Adamawa
Koma is a relatively primitive hill-dwelling ethnic group in northern Adamawa, in the Atlantika Mountains, which shares a border with southern Cameroun. Hill-dwellers are spread through the south and southwest of these mountains, including many on the Cameroun side. There are 21 Koma villages in the Cameroonian side of the Alantika Mountains and 17 villages on the Nigerian side. The largest towns in the Koma area are: Tantille, Chonha, Mani, Nassaraw Koma and Ba-Usmanu. History The Koma people became recognized as Nigerians in 1961, a year after independence, along with the old provinces of Cameroun. Today Koma is part of the seven districts of Jada local government in Adamawa State. The hill was discovered in 1986 by a corps member. Koma Language
The Koma language is a language cluster belonging to the Duru branch of Savannas languages of Cameroon. Blench (2004) includes three varieties separated in ''Ethnologue'', Koma Ndera, Gɨmne, and Gɨmnɨme; within Koma Ndera, speakers of the marginal dialects, Gomnome and Ndera, can scarcely understand one another, though both understand the central dialect, Gomme. Adamawa Plateau
The Adamawa Plateau (french: Massif de l'Adamaoua) is a plateau region in west-central Africa stretching from south-eastern Nigeria through north-central Cameroon ( Adamawa and North Provinces) to the Central African Republic. The part of the plateau that lies in Nigeria is more popularly known as Gotel Mountains. The Adamawa Plateau is the source of many waterways, including the Benue River. The average elevation is about 3,300 feet (1,000 meters), but elevations can reach as high as 8,700 feet (2,650 meters). It is important for its deposits of bauxite. The vegetation is mostly savanna. The endangered toad ''Amietophrynus djohongensis'' is known to exist in the wild only in the Cameroonian part of the Adamawa Plateau. Atlantika Mountains
The Atlantika Mountains, also known as the Alantika Mountains, are an extension of the Cameroon line of volcanic mountains, spanning the border between Nigeria and Cameroon. They lie to the southeast of Yola, the capital of Adamawa State in Nigeria, and southwest of the Mandara mountains. In Cameroon, they are part of the North Region. They are north of the Adamawa Plateau and west of the Faro National Park in Cameroon. The massif rises to about above the Faro River, a tributary of the Benue River. The range includes a belt of volcanoes, most of which are inactive. The line of mountains of which the Atlantika range is a part were taken as a natural boundary between Nigeria and Cameroon by the colonial powers. National Youth Service Corps
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is a program set up by the Nigerian government during the military regime to involve Nigerian graduates in nation-building and the development of the country. There is no military conscription in Nigeria, but since 1973 graduates of universities and later polytechnics have been required to take part in the National Youth Service Corps program for one year. Barrister (Colonel) Yohanna Anteyan Madaki (1941–2006) was Governor of Gongola State and then of Benue State, Nigeria during the military regime of General Ibrahim Babangida. Background Yohanna Madaki was born in 1941 in Ziturung Ka̠ryi, Zangon Kataf Local Government Area in Kaduna State. He attended the then St Paul's Primary School in Zonkwa Kaduna State and thereafter proceeded to the Nigerian Military School (NMS) Zaria.
