Kohler, Wisconsin
Kohler is a village in Sheboygan County, Wisconsin, United States, along the Sheboygan River. The population was 2,120 at the 2010 census. It is included in the Sheboygan, Wisconsin Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Originally called Riverside within the rural Town of Sheboygan, the village was founded as a model company town in 1900 when the Kohler Company built a new plant at the location. The village was incorporated in 1912 as the Village of Kohler. Of the original homes, most built between 1917 and 1931, approximately 95% are owner occupied. The Kohler Company continues to retain final authority over the design of home and business additions, outbuildings and fences in the village to keep them within a certain aesthetic standard. In 1934, 1954–1965, 1983, and 2015, the United Auto Workers and other unions have gone on strike against the Kohler Company, causing limited to major disruptions to village operations. Little Kohler, Wisconsin
Little Kohler, or Kohler, is an unincorporated community located in the Town of Fredonia in Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. Transportation Little Kohler is located at the intersection of County Highway H (Kohler Drive, Fredonia-Kohler Road), Belgium-Kohler Road, and County Highway E. County H had been designated as Wisconsin Highway 84 before the highway was decommissioned. History Martin and Theresa Koller and their children settled in the area in the 1840s, having emigrated from Bavaria. The community was originally named Koller, after them. In 1912, the Kohler Company created a planned community in an area of Sheboygan County formerly known as River Side. They named the village Kohler after the family company. At some point, the community of Koller began to be called Kohler as well. Kohler Glacier is a distributary of the Smith Glacier in Marie Byrd Land, Antarctica, flowing northward through the middle of the Kohler Range into Dotson Ice Shelf. It was mapped by the U.S. Geological Survey from surveys and U.S. Navy air photos, 1959–65, and was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names in association with the Kohler Range. Kohler Range
Kohler Range ) is a mountain range in the Marie Byrd Land of Antarctica. The range is about 64 km (40 mi) long and stands between the base of Martin Peninsula and Smith Glacier. The range is composed of two ice-covered plateaus which are oriented East-West and are separated by the Kohler Glacier, a distributary which flows north from Smith Glacier. The range was discovered on February 24, 1940 by Rear Admiral Richard Evelyn Byrd and other members of the USAS in an airplane flight from a ship named ''Bear''. Chocolat Kohler was a chocolate producer based in Lausanne, founded in 1830 by the Kohler brothers. It is currently a brand owned by Nestlé. History The Kohler chocolate factory was one of the first in Switzerland, shortly following that of Cailler. The first factory was created in 1830 by Charles-Amédée Kohler and his brother Frédéric Kohler, sons of Amédée Kohler (1761-1833), a trader in colonial foodstuffs since 1793. In 1849, Charles-Amédée Kohler bought the municipal sawmill in the Sauvabelin forest where he moved the production of chocolate. The newly built factory used the hydraulic power of the Flon river to allow the grinding of the cocoa beans. Founded in the 1780s, Köhler & Son were independent makers of brasswind instruments in London until they were bought by Swaine & Adeney in 1907. History When the German-born John Köhler came to England he joined the Royal Lancashire Volunteers in the summer of 1782, but by 1786 he had moved to London and set himself up as a trumpet and French horn maker. He set up shop at 9 Whitcomb Street, but by 1794 had removed to premises at 89 St James's Street, Piccadilly. When John Köhler died in 1801, his son John (Lewis) Köhler, who had been apprenticed to him, took over the firm. The younger John's untimely death in 1805 meant that his wife, Elizabeth, was already a widow of five months when she gave birth to a son, John Augustus Köhler.
