Koel
The true koels, ''Eudynamys'', are a genus of cuckoos from Asia, Australia and the Pacific. They are large sexually dimorphic cuckoos that eat fruits and insects and have loud distinctive calls. They are brood parasites, laying their eggs in the nests of other species. Taxonomy The genus ''Eudynamys'' was introduced in 1827 by the English naturalists Nicholas Vigors and Thomas Horsfield. The name combines the Ancient Greek ''eu'' meaning "fine" with ''dunamis'' meaning "power" or "strength". The type species was designated as the Pacific koel by George Robert Gray in 1840. A molecular genetic study by Sorenson and Payne (2005) found that the closest relative of ''Eudynamys'' is the dwarf koel (''Microdynamis parva''), and beyond that the thick-billed cuckoo (''Pachycoccyx audeberti''). KOEL (AM)
KOEL (950 kHz) is an AM radio station serving Waterloo, Cedar Falls and surrounding cities with a news/talk/classic country format. The station is under the ownership of Townsquare Media. Despite different owners and affiliations, KOEL and KWWL maintain a strong partnership. On August 30, 2013, a deal was announced in which Townsquare would acquire 53 Cumulus Media stations, including KOEL, for $238 million. The deal was part of Cumulus' acquisition of Dial Global; Townsquare and Dial Global are both controlled by Oaktree Capital Management. The sale to Townsquare was completed on November 14, 2013. Programming On weekdays, KOEL-AM broadcasts news/talk programming as well as local agriculture business, sports reports, community calendar, lunch specials and stock market reports, with ABC News broadcast on the hour, along with Oelwein Huskies play by play. KOEL-FM (92.3 FM, "K92.3") is a radio station serving Waterloo, Cedar Falls, and the surrounding area known as the Cedar Valley with a country music format. The station is owned by Townsquare Media. History Before the 92.3 frequency was acquired by Cumulus Media from Connoisseur Media in 2000, the station was country music-formatted KOEL-FM. This format flip also happened to other stations Cumulus acquired from Connoisseur, like KBEA (Muscatine-Quad Cities, IA), which had been a country station, as well as KBOB "BOB Country." Before the flip to CHR on September 22, 2003, the only other stations in the Waterloo/Cedar Falls Area that carried the format were distant and somewhat weak signals, including Cedar Rapids' KZIA and Waverly's KWAY-FM. Although Waverly is considered part of the Waterloo/Cedar Falls Designated Market Area, KWAY's 4,600 watt signal was not the strongest. South Koel River ( or, ଦକ୍ଷିଣ କୋଏଲ ନଦୀ; hi, दक्षिण कोयल नदी) is a long river which runs across Jharkhand and Odisha states in India. North Koel River
North Koel River flows through the Indian state of Jharkhand. Course The North Koel rises on the Chhota Nagpur plateau and enters Latehar district , below Netarhat near Rud. After flowing nearly due west for about , it turns north at an almost complete right angle through a gorge at Kutku, and flows through the centre of the district until it falls into the Son a few miles north-west of Haidarnagar. From its source to its junction with the Son its length is about , and since it drains a catchment area of at least , it naturally contributes a large supply of water to the Son during the rains; at other times the stream is not deep enough to enable cargo boats of even small dimensions to make their way up to Daltonganj. Ditmar Koel, also ''Dithmar Koel'', ''Ditmar Kohl'' or ''Dietmar Koehl'' (born around 1500, died 22 September 1563 in Hamburg), was a Captain, successful pirate hunter and Mayor of Hamburg. Biography In 1525 Koel was commander of one of four ships of the fleet of Admiral Simon Parseval. 7 October he came into sea battle with the fleet of the pirate Claus Kniphoff. After 8 hours he managed to take the ship ''Gallion''. He brought the pirates and the loot to Hamburg, and was 1527 elected to ''Ratsherr'' ( councilman). Gerard Koel
Gerard Koel (born 16 January 1941) is a retired Dutch cyclist who was active between 1962 and 1973. He won a bronze medal in the 4 km team pursuit at the 1964 Summer Olympics. In 1966 he turned professional and won two six-day races: in Madrid in 1967 and in Amsterdam in 1973, as well as one stage of the Olympia's Tour in 1965. Nationally he earned titles in the sprint (1968 and 1969) and scratch in 1970. De Koel (), also known as Covebo Stadion – De Koel, is a multi-purpose stadium in Venlo, Limburg (Netherlands), Limburg, Netherlands. It is currently mostly used for association football, football matches and is the home stadium of VVV-Venlo. The stadium is able to hold 8,000 spectators, and was built in 1972.
