Kodungallur Bypass
The Kodungallur bypass is a stretch road which bypasses the Indian city of Kodungallur. It is a part of National Highway 66. The total cost of the land acquisition and construction of the bypass is 1,168 million rupees. History The first survey for the bypass was commissioned in 1977. In July 2008, notification was issued for acquisition of the land and, on 30 November 2008, land acquisitions were started. Resident associations and other families approached the lower court and Kerala High Court to stop the acquisitions by the National Highway Authority and Government of Kerala Government of Kerala is the subnational government of the Indian state of Kerala. Kottappuram, Thrissur
Kottappuram or Kottapuram is a village in Kodungallur, Thrissur district, Kerala, India. (Malayalam: കോട്ടപ്പുറം) Kottapuram is the southern boundary of Kodungallur. The place is named after a fort built by the Portuguese in 1523 It is also the headquarters of the Kottapuram Diocese. It is surrounded by Krishnankotta on the east, Thiruvanchikulam on the north, Gothuruth on the south and Valiya Panikkan Thuruth on the south. The main rice trade in Kodungallur is at the Kottapuram market. Historians believe that this market is as old as Sangham period. The site of the historic Portuguese fort is now under the protection of the Archaeological Survey of India. There is also a monument to Knai Thoma near the fort. Kodungallur (; also Cranganore, Portuguese: Cranganor; formerly known as Mahodayapuram, Shingly, Vanchi, Muchiri, Muyirikkode, and Muziris) is a historically significant town situated on the banks of river Periyar on the Malabar Coast in Thrissur district of Kerala, India. It is north of Kochi (Cochin) by National Highway 66 and from Thrissur. Kodungallur, being a port city at the northern end of the Kerala lagoons, was a strategic entry point for the naval fleets to the extensive Kerala backwaters. As of the 2011 India Census, Kodungallur Municipality had a population of 33,935. It had an average literacy rate of 95.10%. National Highway 66 (India)
National Highway 66, commonly referred to as NH 66 (erstwhile NH-17 and a part of NH-47), is a mostly 4 lane long busy National Highway that runs roughly north–south along the western coast of India, parallel to the Western Ghats. It connects Panvel (a city south of Mumbai) to Cape Comorin (Kanyakumari), passing through the states of Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The highway is undergoing a major overhaul in Karnataka, where the state government has accepted the NHAI's request of international standard, 60-metre-wide national highway with grade separators. The complete stretch from the Goa border (near Karwar) to the Kerala border (near Talapady) is being widened to four lanes, with space to accommodate future expansion to six lanes. Oommen Chandy, , (born 31 October 1943) is an Indian politician and statesman who served as the Chief Minister of Kerala for two terms, from 2004 to 2006 and again from 2011 to 2016. He was also Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Legislative Assembly from 2006 to 2011. He represents Puthuppally constituency as MLA in the State Assembly since 1970.
