Kochel
Kochel am See is a municipality and a town in the district of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen in Bavaria, on the shores of Kochelsee. The municipality consists of the districts Altjoch, Brunnenbach, Ort, Pessenbach, Pfisterberg, Walchensee and Ried. People Apart from its scenery, the settlement is known for the Smith of Kochel "Schmied von Kochel", who, according to legend, lead a Bavarian farmer rebellion against Austro-Hungarian occupiers at Sendling in the War of the Spanish Succession. Kochel is also known for its hydroelectric dam. It is a popular place for winter and summer holidays. The expressionist painter Franz Marc lived and is buried in Kochel. Kochelsee
Kochelsee or Lake Kochel is a lake south of Munich on the edge of the Bavarian Alps. The western 1.7 km² or 28.3 percent of the lake lies within the borders of the town of Schlehdorf, while the rest belongs to Kochel am See. The southern edge of the lake lies up against the mountains and the northern shore is bordered by bog lands. The history of the settlement of Kochel (previously ''Quochcalun'') begins with ''Birg bei Altjoch'', a rock extrusion on the shore of the lake. The name Kochel is derived from the Latin ''cocula'' meaning head or cone. The Loisach flows into the lake at Schlehdorf and flows out at Kochel am See. A similar amount of water flows into the lake from the Isar through the Lake Walchen Power Plant. Kochelsee Railway
The Kochelsee Railway (german: Kochelseebahn, literally "Lake Kochel Railway") is a branch line in Upper Bavaria (''Oberbayern''), Germany, that is just under 36 km long, single-tracked and fully electrified. It is operated by the Deutsche Bahn AG as route 961 in their List of German scheduled railway routes. The ''Kochelseebahn'' branches in Tutzing from the Munich Hauptbahnhof–Garmisch-Partenkirchen main line and runs from there via Penzberg to Kochel am See by the Kochelsee that gives the line its name. The section from Tutzing to Bichl is classed as a main line, the remainder as a branch line. The route was electrified on 4 March 1925 and is currently (2006) worked by electric multiples of the DBAG Class 425/426. The Smith Of Kochel
The Smith of Kochel is a figure from Bavarian myth. According to this myth, he was a soldier in the Habsburg-Ottoman Wars ( Battle of Vienna). Armed with nothing but a bar, he supposedly stoved in the gates of Belgrade. He refused rewards for his heroic deed from the prince electors. Another legend attributed to him is leading the farmer rebellion against the imperial troops of the Habsburg Emperor Joseph I during the War of Spanish Succession. This culminated in the Sendlinger Mordweihnacht ("Sendling Christmas Massacre"). In literature, the smith is described as a man of over 70 years of age, yet great in stature and power. For the revolt, he supposedly armed himself with a spiked club of his own making that weighed over 100 lb (50 kg) . Walchensee Hydroelectric Power Station
The Walchensee Power Plant (german: link=no, Walchenseekraftwerk) is a hydroelectric power station in Bavaria, Germany. It is a storage power station that is fed water from the Walchensee which is then released into the Kochelsee. The installed capacity is 124 MW with an annual production of 300 GWh. The power plant is south of Kochelsee, about from the village of Walchensee. It is one of the largest of its kind in Germany and has been owned by Uniper Kraftwerke GmbH since 2016. Technical operation The power station uses the hydraulic head of about between the Walchensee (acting as the upper reservoir, at above sea level) and the Kochelsee ( a.s.l.) to generate electricity. Franz Marc Museum
The Franz Marc Museum is a museum located in Kochel am See, Upper Bavaria, dedicated to German Expressionist painter Franz Marc. The museum shows paintings by Franz Marc, and also works of art of his contemporaries and other important artists of the 20th century, in a permanent and in temporary exhibitions. History The Franz Marc Museum is a private institution, which was founded in 1986 to present the life and work of Marc, one of the most important artists of Bavaria in the 20th century, in the place where he lived and which gave him so much inspiration. Franz Marc
Franz Moritz Wilhelm Marc (8 February 1880 – 4 March 1916) was a German painter and printmaker, one of the key figures of German Expressionism. He was a founding member of ''Der Blaue Reiter'' (The Blue Rider), a journal whose name later became synonymous with the circle of artists collaborating in it. His mature works mostly depict animals, and are known for bright colouration. He was drafted to serve in the German Army at the beginning of World War I, and died two years later at the Battle of Verdun. In the 1930s, the Nazis named him a degenerate artist as part of their suppression of modern art. However, most of his work survived World War II, securing his legacy. Michael Mellinger
Michael Andreas Mellinger (30 May 1929 – 17 March 2004) was a German actor in film, television, theatre and radio. He was best known for his appearances on the West End and supporting role in the film '' Goldfinger'' (1964). Biography Born in Kochel, Bavaria, Mellinger came from a theatrical background; both his parents were actors. He was sent to boarding school in England, and then qualified at North London Polytechnic as a radio engineer. Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen ( Bavarian: ''Bad Däiz-Woifradshausn'') is a ''Landkreis'' (district) in Bavaria, Germany. It is bounded by (from the south and clockwise) Austria and the districts of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Weilheim-Schongau, Starnberg, Munich and Miesbach. Elisabeth Demleitner (born 23 September 1952 in Kochel am See) is a West German luger who competed during the 1970s and early 1980s. Competing in three Winter Olympics, she won the bronze medal in the women's singles event at the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck. Demleitner also won four medals in the women's singles event at the FIL World Luge Championships with one gold (1971), two silvers (1974, 1979), and one bronze (1970). Sendling is a borough of Munich. It is located south-west of the city centre and spans the city boroughs Sendling and Sendling-Westpark. Sendling is subdivided into Obersendling, Mittersendling and Untersendling.
