Knockanacree
Knockanacree (''Cnocán an Chraoi'' in Irish language, Irish) is a townland in the historical Barony (Ireland), Barony of Ormond Lower, County Tipperary, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. The townland is located within the civil parish of Modreeny north of the town of Cloughjordan. Three areas within Knocknacree townland have been selected as the possible location for a Break Pressure Tank which is required for the proposed River Shannon to Dublin pipeline, pipeline to supply drinking water from Lough Derg (Shannon), Lough Derg to Dublin. Knocknacree Woods The townland includes a prominent wooded hill, originally the grounds of Knockanacree Wood House which was demolished during the Irish War of Independence. The woodland is now managed by Coillte as part of the Borrisokane Forest. There are walking trails leading through old beech wood to views of the surrounding area. Borrisokane Forest
Borrisokane forest in County Tipperary extends from the R445 road (Ireland), R445 road northward to Portumna and from Lough Derg (Shannon), Lough Derg to the County Offaly border. The forest consists of several widely dispersed small areas of woodland centred on Borrisokane. Cloughjordan
Cloughjordan, officially Cloghjordan ( , ), is a town in County Tipperary in Ireland. It is in the barony of Ormond Lower, and it is also a parish in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Killaloe. The town is situated in the north-western part of Tipperary close to the border with County Offaly. It is almost equidistant from Nenagh, Roscrea and Birr and is close to Ireland's largest river, the Shannon, and Lough Derg. Poet and Easter Rising leader Thomas MacDonagh, a native of Cloughjordan, described it as a place "in calm of middle country". Cloghjordan has three Christian churches: one Roman Catholic (SS Michael and John's, built in 1898), Church of Ireland (St Kieran's, 1837) and Methodist (1875). Lough Derg (Shannon)
Lough Derg, historically Lough Dergart ( ga, Loch Deirgeirt), is a freshwater lake in the Shannon River Basin, Ireland. It is the third-biggest on the island of Ireland (after Lough Neagh and Lough Corrib). It is a long, narrow lake, with shores in counties Clare (south-west), Galway (north-west), and Tipperary (to the east). It is the southernmost of three large lakes on the River Shannon; the others being Lough Ree and Lough Allen. Towns and villages on Lough Derg include Portumna, Killaloe & Ballina, Dromineer, Terryglass, Mountshannon and Garrykennedy. The lake's name evolved from the Irish ''Loch Deirgdheirc''. River Shannon To Dublin Pipeline
Dublin City Council published a plan in 2011 to supply up to 350 million litres of water a day from Lough Derg to Dublin city and region. In January 2014, Irish Water took over management of the project which is currently in the Planning Stage. In 2016 it was proposed that over two million people will benefit from the water supplying not only Dublin but also an area including Arklow, Athlone, Athy, Carlow, Drogheda, Mullingar, Navan, Portaloise and Tullamore. In 2018 Irish Water announced plans to seek planning permission for the project. Thomas MacDonagh
Thomas Stanislaus MacDonagh ( ga, Tomás Anéislis Mac Donnchadha; 1 February 1878 – 3 May 1916) was an Irish political activist, poet, playwright, educationalist and revolutionary leader. He was one of the seven leaders of the Easter Rising of 1916, a signatory of the Proclamation of the Irish Republic and Commandant of the 2nd Battalion, Dublin Brigade of the Irish Volunteers, which fought in Jacob's biscuit factory. He was executed for his part in the Rising at the age of thirty-eight. MacDonagh was assistant headmaster at St. Enda's School, Scoil Éanna, and lecturer in English at University College Dublin. He was a member of the Gaelic League, where he befriended Patrick Pearse and Eoin MacNeill. He was a founding member of the Irish Volunteers with MacNeill and Pearse. He wrote poetry and plays.
