Kismet (Jesca Hoop Album)
''Kismet'' (meaning "Destiny"), is the first studio album by musician Jesca Hoop, released on September 17, 2007 through RED Ink Records. The song "Love and Love Again" was co-written with David Baerwald while Stewart Copeland guests on the song "Seed Of Wonder." The song "Intelligentactile 101" was released prior to the album. According to Hoop, many of the songs on the album were "quite old." "Out the Back Door," a combination of early 20s jazz and hip hop, is a song she "wrote years ago, and then the movie '' Idlewild'' came out and it kind of reinforced my concept in that arena," explained Hoop. Jessica "Jesca" Ada Hoop (born April 21, 1975) is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist, who writes and performs in diverse musical styles. She has released six studio albums of her own, as well as live, acoustic and dual albums with others. Biography Early life Hoop was born in Santa Rosa, California, to traditional Mormon parents Janette and Jack Dennis Hoop. She grew up singing hymns and folk tunes with her family in four-part harmony. At age 14, her parents separated, and two years later she broke away from her Mormon religion. Hoop described losing her faith as, "Now I feel free of it: I have faith in people". Hoop moved off the grid into the rural and wilderness areas of Northern California and Wyoming where she, "lived under a tree for a summer, in yurts, in cob dwellings, and in a chicken shack that I converted". Blake Mills
Blake Mills (born September 21, 1986) is an American songwriter, guitarist, producer, and composer based in California. Biography Blake Mills was born in Santa Monica, California, United States, and grew up in Malibu, where he attended Malibu High School with Taylor Goldsmith. Mills and Goldsmith began their musical careers in a band they co-founded called Simon Dawes. Simon Dawes released its debut EP ''What No One Hears'' in 2005, and its first LP ''Carnivore'' in September 2006 via Record Collection. José Pasillas
José Antonio Pasillas II (born April 26, 1976) is an American musician best known as the drummer and co-founder of alternative rock band Incubus. Biography José Pasillas is of Mexican descent. He grew up in Calabasas, California. He began playing drums in 1990. Later in 1991, José and friends Brandon Boyd, Mike Einziger, and Alex Katunich (aka Dirk Lance; replaced by Ben Kenney in 2003) began Incubus in high school in the San Fernando Valley outpost of Calabasas. Remy Zero was an American alternative rock band from Birmingham, Alabama, formed in 1989. Yoshida Brothers
The are Japanese shamisenist musicians who have released several albums on the Domo Records label. The two brothers are performers of the traditional Japanese music style of Tsugaru-jamisen which originated in northern Japan. They debuted in 1999 in Japan as a duo playing the shamisen. Their first album sold over 100,000 copies and made them minor celebrities in Japan, a fact that surprised the Yoshida Brothers themselves. They have since attracted an international audience. Their music has been a fusion of the rapid and percussive Tsugaru-jamisen style along with Western and other regional musical influences. He began learning how to play the drums at 15 years old, taking lessons with David Garibaldi from the band Tower of Power.
