Kingston House
The Kingston House, also known as the Johnston House, is an historic, American inn and tavern that is located in Unity Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. History and architectural features Built circa 1815, this historic structure is a two-and-one-half-story, rubble stone building that is five bays wide. It has a center hall plan that was created in the Federal style. Attached to the house is a one-and-one-half-story, masonry wing that was erected in 1830. It was built by Alexander Johnston, who was an innkeeper who hosted a number of prominent guests, including presidential candidates William Henry Harrison and Zachary Taylor. Johnston's third son, William F. Johnston (1808-1872), served as Governor of Pennsylvania from 1848 to 1851. Kingston House is a tower block and low rise office development built in Kingston upon Hull, England, in the 1960s in a modernist style. History ''Kingston House'' is a multi storey office development built 1965-7 to the design of Fry, Drew and Partners. The building was one of a number of high or medium rise concrete buildings built in the city in the post Second World War period including the main building of Hull College, 'Telephone House' (Carr Lane), and the Hull Royal Infirmary, as well as numerous high rise tower blocks. Before the Hull Blitz bombing of 1941–5 the area contained buildings of a type common in the town area north of Queen's Dock, dating to before the 1850s. (The 'Georgian old town'.) Kingston House, Kingston Park
Kingston Historical House is a pioneer house found in Kingston Park, South Australia, a suburb of Adelaide, South Australia. Early history Sir George Strickland Kingston purchased eighty acres (32 hectares) of land in 1839 in the area now known as Kingston Park. The house was built in two stages, firstly in 1840 and then in 1851. As such it is the oldest building in Holdfast Bay City Council and one of the oldest in the state of South Australia. In 1840 Kingston leased the premises to fellow ''Cygnet'' passenger, Robert Bristow, who began the first hotel in the Brighton-Marino district. Bristow was granted a licence to sell beer and wine in September 1840. Patronage for the inn was expected from fishermen, quarrymen and sailors given the nearby fishing village, newly opened quarry and newly built pier. Kingston House, Shrewsbury
Kingston House is a building in St Alkmund's Place, Shrewsbury. It is a Grade II listed building. History The house was built to a timber-frame design and completed in 1679. It has an unusual tower with a pyramid roof. It became a training facility for "friendless girls in moral danger" in 1872 and went on to become the headquarters of the Shropshire Regiment of Yeomanry Cavalry in the late 19th century. This unit evolved to become the Shropshire Imperial Yeomanry in 1901 and the Shropshire Yeomanry in 1908. By the early 20th century the Divisional Troops of the Royal Artillery and the offices of the Shropshire Territorial Force Association were also based in the building. Kingston Maurward House
Kingston Maurward House is a large Grade I listed Georgian English country house set in a 750-acre (3 square km) estate in Dorset situated in the Frome valley two miles east of Dorchester. History There has been a manor house at Kingston since the late 14th century, replaced in the late 16th century with a manor house which is still in the grounds. The present mansion was built by George Pitt (1663-1735) of Stratfield Saye House, cousin of William Pitt the Elder, between 1717 and 1720 on the estate brought to him by his second wife Lora daughter of Audley Grey. The mansion was in red brick, but after derogatory comments from King George III, Pitt clad the house in Portland limestone. The building faces south, and has a projecting central section. Kingston, or Sasscer's House, is a -story historic home located at Upper Marlboro, Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. It is believed to be the oldest building remaining in the town of Upper Marlboro and may have been built, at least in part, before 1730. Many alterations and additions were made to it in the Victorian era, including "gingerbread" details typical of this era. The Craufurd family cemetery is located in the woods northwest of the house.
