King Salman Award For Disability Research
The King Salman Award for Disability Research is an internationally recognized prize that is awarded to notable individuals who contributed to knowledge and scientific research in the field of disability. The prize was established by King Salman Center for Disability Research. Areas and Nominations   There are three main areas of the award in which nominations are accepted. These areas are Health and Medical Sciences, Pedagogical and Educational Sciences, and Rehabilitative and Social Sciences. The Nominations are accepted from local and international research and scientific organizations as well as academic departments and universities. Award Value The laureates are given the following rewards: * A certificate with their names and works. * An honorary medal. * 500,000 Saudi Riyals (US$133,450). The Saudi riyal ( ar, ريال سعودي ') is the currency of Saudi Arabia. It is abbreviated as or SAR ''(Saudi Arabian Riyal)''. It is subdivided into 100 halalas ( ar, هللة '). The currency is pegged to the US dollar at a constant rate of exchange. History The riyal has been the currency of Saudi Arabia since the country came into being and was the currency of Hejaz before Saudi Arabia was created, one of the primary currencies in the Mediterranean region during the Ottoman era. The Hejaz riyal was based on but not equivalent to the Ottoman 20 kuruş coin and was consequently divided into 20 qirsh. However, although the Hejaz riyal was the same weight as the Ottoman 20 kuruş, it was minted in .917 fineness, compared to .830 fineness for the Ottoman coin. The King Salman Center for Disability Research (KSCDR; ar, مركز الملك سلمان لأبحاث الإعاقة) is a non-profit organization based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It conducts and funds laboratory and field research on all aspects and ages of disability. Its aim is to improve the quality of life of all persons living with disabilities by promoting research that results in real-life changes and activities that help reduce the impact of disability. History KSCDR is named in honor of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. It was founded in 1992 by His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to complement the Disabled Children Association (DCA), a service-oriented organization for children living with disabilities in Saudi Arabia.
