Kilmacud Luas Stop
Kilmacud ( ga, Cill Mochuda) is a stop on the Luas light-rail tram system in Dún Laoghaire - Rathdown, south of Dublin, Ireland. It opened in 2004 as a stop on the Green Line and serves the eponymous suburb. The stop is located at the junction between Benildus Avenue and Drummartin Link Road. Location and access The track around Kilmacud runs in a broad cutting between Benildus Avenue and the grounds of St Benildus College. A footbridge provides access across the tracks, avoiding the stop completely. The stop has entrances on both sides, leading from the northbound platform to Benildus Avenue, and from the southbound platform to a footpath in the college (which ultimately leads to Drummartin link road). Both entrances consist of a staircase and lift to provide step-free access. The Benildus Avenue entrance then has a bridge over the side of the cutting, leading to a gap in the retaining wall. Green Line (Luas)
The Green Line () is one of the two lines of Dublin's Luas light rail system. The Green Line was formerly entirely in the south side of Dublin city. It mostly follows the route of the old Harcourt Street railway line, which was reserved for possible re-use when it closed in 1958. The Green Line allows for passenger transfers at O’ Connell GPO and Marlborough to Luas Red Line services and also allows commuters to use Broombridge as an interchange station to reach outer suburbs such as Castleknock and Ongar. The Green Line from St Stephen's Green to Sandyford launched on 30 June 2004. An extension to the Bride's Glen stop at Cherrywood was opened on 16 October 2010. Transdev, formerly Veolia Transdev, is a French-based international private-sector company which operates public transport. It has operations in 17 countries and territories as of November 2020. Luas
Luas (pronounced ; Irish for "speed") is a tram/ light rail system in Dublin, Ireland. There are two main lines: the Green Line, which began operating on 30 June 2004, and the Red Line which opened on 26 September 2004. Since then, both lines have been extended and split into different branches further out of the city. The two lines, as of 2017, now intersect and connect within Dublin city centre. The system now has 67 stations and of revenue track, which in 2018 carried 41.8 million passengers, an increase of 11.2% compared to 2017. Luas is operated by Transdev, under tender from Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII). Kilmacud () is a suburban area of Dublin in Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown, Ireland, at least partly contiguous with Stillorgan. Name ''Kilmacud'' is an anglicisation of the Irish name , "church of aintMochuda". The identity of the dedicatee Mochuda is uncertain; is often a hypocoristic prefix. One possibility is Mo Chutu of Lismore. Another is the Welsh–Breton Malo or Mochud, supposedly a companion of Brendan the Navigator. Another suggestion is Cuthbert of Lindisfarne, whose cult could have been brought to Viking Dublin by Norse settlers from the Kingdom of Northumbria. This may be a conflation of Kilmacud with Kilmahuddrick, west of Clondalkin, which the annals of St. Mary's Abbey said is where Cuthbert was born. St Benildus College
St Benildus College is an all-boys, Catholic secondary school located in Stillorgan, Dublin, Ireland. It was established in 1966 when free secondary education was introduced in Ireland. Founded in 2005, the College was named after the De La Salle Saint, Brother Benildus of Clermont, France. As of 2018, over 800 students were recorded as being current pupils at the school. It is located on the Upper Kilmacud Road in South Dublin on a 25-acre site. Most of the school's students live in the surrounding areas such as Ballinteer, Kilmacud, Sandyford, Dundrum, Goatstown, Stillorgan, Balally, Leopardstown and Ballyogan. Carrickmines ( ga, Carraig Mhaighin) is a stop on the Luas light rail tram system in Dún Laoghaire - Rathdown, south of Dublin, Ireland which serves the nearby village of Carrickmines. It opened in 2010 and was built on the site of a disused heavy rail station of the same name. History Railway station (1854-1958) The Harcourt Street railway line was built by the Dublin, Wicklow and Wexford Railway and opened in 1854, running from a temporary terminus at Harcourt Road near the city centre to Bray. Carrickmines was originally one of four intermediate stops on the line. The station was located to the east of Glenamuck Road North, which crossed the railway line on an iron bridge.
