Kevin Young (athlete)
Kevin C. Young (born September 16, 1966) is a former United States, American Athletics (sport), athlete. He was the winner of the 400 metres hurdles at the 1992 Summer Olympics. In the final of this event he set a list of world records in athletics, world record and List of Olympic records in athletics, Olympic record of 46.78 seconds, the first time 47 seconds was broken, and a world record that stood for nearly 29 years until it was broken by Karsten Warholm on July 1, 2021. He became the 400 m hurdles world champion the following year, winning at the 1993 World Championships in Athletics with a time of 47.18 seconds. He had an unusual hurdling technique of switching between 12 and 13 strides between the hurdles, departing from the 13-stride technique popularized by Edwin Moses. Kevin Stacey Young (born June 16, 1969) is an American former professional baseball player. He played 12 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Pittsburgh Pirates (1992–95, 1997–2003) and Kansas City Royals (1996), primarily as a first baseman. He batted and threw right-handed. Young was also the recipient of the Roberto Clemente Award in Pittsburgh. This award is given annually to the MLB player who best exemplifies sportsmanship, community involvement and the individual's contribution to his team. Kevin Young (born November 17, 1981) is an American basketball coach who is an associate coach for the Phoenix Suns of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He has previously played college basketball and was a head coach for Ireland's Super League with the Shamrock Rovers Hoops and the NBA Development League's Utah Flash, Iowa Energy, and Delaware 87ers. He was also an assistant coach for the Utah Valley State College, Oxford College, and the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers. Kevin Young Jr. (born June 24, 1990) is a Puerto Rican professional basketball player for the Osos de Manatí of the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN). He played college basketball for Loyola Marymount and Kansas. High school career Young attended Perris High School of the Sun Belt League. Kevin Young (born 12 August 1961) is an English former footballer who played for Burnley, Torquay United, Port Vale, Bury, Utrecht, and Murton. He won promotion out of the Third Division with Burnley in 1981–82 and out of the Fourth Division with Bury in 1984–85. Career Young began his career as an apprentice at Burnley, turning professional under Harry Potts in May 1979 after making his league debut in the 1978–79 season. Kevin Young (born November 8, 1970) is an American poet and the director of the Smithsonian Institution National Museum of African American History and Culture since 2021. National Museum Of African American History And Culture
The National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) is a Smithsonian Institution museum located on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., in the United States. It was established in December 2003 and opened its permanent home in September 2016 with a ceremony led by President Barack Obama. Early efforts to establish a federally owned museum featuring African-American history and culture can be traced to 1915, although the modern push for such an organization did not begin until the 1970s. After years of little success, a much more serious legislative push began in 1988 that led to authorization of the museum in 2003.
