Kevin O'Keeffe (footballer)
Kevin O'Keeffe (born 22 October 1952) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Fitzroy in the VFL during the 1970s. O'Keeffe, a half back, represented Victoria in an interstate match against Western Australia at the 1975 Knockout Carnival. In the same year, while playing for Fitzroy, he accidentally collided with Footscray's Neil Sachse, leaving Sachse a quadriplegic. In 1980 he transferred to East Perth where he played for two seasons before making an unsuccessful comeback with Fitzroy. His next port of call was Queensland club Coorparoo Coorparoo is a suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Coorparoo had a population of 16,282 people. Coorparoo Football Club
Coorparoo Football Club is an Australian rules football club based in the Brisbane suburb of Coorparoo from 1935 until the senior club folded in 1995. The club left the QAFL following the 1993 season due to the financial strain experienced since the recent introduction of a minimum salary cap, and joined the Brisbane Australian Football League (BAFL) for the 1994 and 1995 seasons. The "Coorparoo Junior Australian Football Club" has continued as a stand-alone club since 1996 to the present. The "Coorparoo (Seniors) Kings Football Club" also operates out of the same oval in Birubi Street. Both teams club colours are navy blue with a white monogram. Fitzroy Football Club
The Fitzroy Football Club is an Australian rules football club currently competing in the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA). Formed in 1883 to represent the inner-Melbourne municipality of Fitzroy, the club was a member of the Victorian Football Association (VFA), before becoming a foundation member of the breakaway Victorian Football League (VFL/AFL) in 1897. Fitzroy won a total of eight VFL premierships, of which seven (1898, 1899, 1904, 1905, 1913, 1916 and 1922) were won whilst they were nicknamed the Maroons and one (1944) as the Gorillas. The decision of the club to change its nickname to the Lions in 1957 coincided with what history now records as the beginning of decades of poor on-field performance and financial losses that eventually resulted in the club being placed into administration, ultimately leaving the AFL at the end of the 1996 season. The East Perth Football Club, nicknamed the Royals, is an Australian rules football club based in Leederville, Western Australia, current playing in the West Australian Football League (WAFL). Formed in 1902 as the Union Football Club, the club entered the WAFL in 1906, changing its name to East Perth. It won its first premiership in 1919, part of a streak of five consecutive premierships. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. 1975 Knockout Carnival
The 1975 Knockout Carnival was the 19th Australian National Football Carnival, an Australian rules football interstate competition. The tournament was won by Victoria. The 1975 carnival represented a significant change in format for the carnival. Previous carnivals had all been played as a stand-alone event in a single host city, with each team playing the others in a round robin competition; but the 1975 carnival was played as a shortened knock-out tournament and split between two cities. Just three games were played: two semi finals and a final. The semi-finals were played as a double-header in Melbourne, and the final was contested a month later in Adelaide. Neil Sachse
Neil Frederick Sachse (3 January 1951 – 25 August 2020) was a South Australian National Football League (SANFL) and Victorian Football League (VFL) Australian rules footballer, who was left a quadriplegic after an on-field accident in a 1975 VFL game. Footscray career Sachse was a premiership player with North Adelaide before moving to VFL club Footscray in 1975. In his second match for Footscray (Round 2, 1975), Sachse was left a quadriplegic after an accidental collision with Fitzroy player, Kevin O'Keeffe. He was left with no use of his legs, and little movement in his hands. However he could still move his arms and breathe normally.
