Kettwig Stausee Railway Station
Kettwig Stausee is a railway station in the city of Essen in western Germany on the Ruhr Valley line. It serves the southern part of the Kettwig borough, ''Kettwig vor der Brücke'', and is situated right next to the river Ruhr. History The station was opened in 1945 as ''Kettwig-Pusch'' after the German army had destroyed the Ruhr bridges in Kettwig during the last days of World War II. It was used to connect the railway lines to Mülheim an der Ruhr, Düsseldorf and Velbert with each other. After a single Ruhr bridge was rebuilt, the station was renamed ''Kettwig Stausee'' in 1953. In 1960, services to Velbert and in 1968 services to Mülheim ended. The station building was torn down in 1981, and the station was downgraded to a mere S-Bahn stop. S6 (Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn)
Line S 6 is a S-Bahn line in the Rhein-Ruhr network. It calls, among others, at the cities of Essen, Düsseldorf and Cologne and was the first S-Bahn line in the Rhine-Ruhr network, becoming operational on 28 September 1967 between Ratingen Ost and Düsseldorf-Garath. It is operated at 20-minute intervals using coupled sets of class 422 four-car electrical multiple units. Rhein-Ruhr S-Bahn
The Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn (german: S-Bahn Rhein-Ruhr) is a polycentric and electrically driven S-train network covering the Rhine-Ruhr Metropolitan Region in the German federated state of North Rhine-Westphalia. This includes most of the Ruhr (and cities such as Dortmund, Duisburg and Essen), the Berg cities of Wuppertal and Solingen and parts of the Rhineland (with cities such as Cologne and Düsseldorf). The easternmost city within the S-Bahn Rhine-Ruhr network is Unna, the westernmost city served is Mönchengladbach. Velbert ( Low Rhenish: ''Vèlbed'') is a town in the district of Mettmann, in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The town is renowned worldwide for the production of locks and fittings. Kettwig is the southernmost borough of the city of Essen in western Germany and, until 1975, was a town in its own right. Kettwig is situated next to the Ruhr river, at a median height of 53 metres above sea level. It is the most recently incorporated borough of Essen and also the largest in area, at 15.3 km².
