Kerala Sahitya Akademi
The Kerala Sahitya Akademi or Academy for Malayalam literature is an autonomous body established to promote the Malayalam language and Malayalam literature, literature. It is situated in City of Thrissur, Kerala in India. History The academy was inaugurated on 15 October 1956, by Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma, the former king of Travancore, in Thiruvananthapuram. It was shifted to its present location at City of Thrissur in September, 1957. Though the Kerala Government provides the funding and support for the academy, the administration of the academy is autonomous according to its constitution. Punaloor Balan
Punalur Balan (1927–1987) was an Indian writer and a poet in Malayalam. He was born on 3 January 1927 in Punalur, Kollam district, Kerala. From his student days he was associated with the Communist movement and shot to fame during the ' Pink Decade' in Malayalam poetry. Balan wrote lyrics and songs profusely for the cultural forums of the Communist Party and when the Kerala People's Arts Club (KPAC) staged its first play ''Ente Makananu Sari'' Balan penned the lyrics. After taking his B.A. and B.Ed. he became a school teacher. He took his M.A. in Malayalam and became a journalist. Later he joined the State Institute of Languages as a Research Officer. Kerala Sahitya Academy award was given to his collection ''Kottayile Pattu'' in 1975. Kunjunni Mash
Kunjunni (10 May 1927 - 26 March 2006), popularly known as Kunjunni Mash (''Mash'' is the Malayalam equivalent of teacher), was an Indian poet of Malayalam literature. Known for his short poems with a philosophical overtone, his works were popular among children as well as grown-ups. He received several honors including three awards from the Kerala Sahitya Akademi viz. Yusufali Kechery
Yusufali Kechery (Yūsaphali Kēccēri; യൂസഫലി കേച്ചേരി 16 May 1934 – 21 March 2015) was a poet, film lyricist, film producer and director from Kerala, India. He wrote during the modern era of Malayalam poetry and won the Odakkuzhal Award, the Kerala Sahitya Academy Award and the Vallathol Award. Career K. P. Narayana Pisharody was Kechery's Sanskrit teacher and taught him free of cost for four years. Vishnunarayanan Namboothiri (2 June 1939 – 25 February 2021) was an Indian writer and scholar of Malayalam literature. Known primarily for his poems, Namboothiri also contributed to other genres such as essays, translations and children's literature. ''Swathanthrathe Kurichu Oru Geetham'', ''Bhoomigeethangal'', ''Indiayenna Vikaaram'' and ''Charulata'' count among his notable works. Kadavanad Kuttikrishnan (10 October 1925 – 19 August 1992) was a Malayalam–language poet and journalist from Kerala state, South India. He received the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award in the year 1978 for his poetry work ''Suprabhatham''. Biography Kuttikrishnan was born in 1925 in Kadavanad village near Ponnani in Kerala as the son of Arumukhan and Devaki. After completing his education from Puthuponnani Mappila Elementary School, Ponnani BEM School and A.V. Highschool, he worked in Grain Purchasing Office and Premier Hosiery Works in Kozhikode. Chemmanam Chacko
Chemmanam Chacko (Malayalam:ചെമ്മനം ചാക്കോ) (March 7, 1926 – August 14, 2018) was an Indian satirical poet from Kerala, India. He died on 15 August 2018 at the age of 92 at his residence in Padamugal. Early life Chacko was born on 7 March 1926, in the village of Mulakulam in erstwhile Travancore. His father was an Orthodox Christian priest. He did his early schooling in Saint Joseph's school, Piravom, and went on to receive his BA honours in Malayalam literature with first rank from University College, Trivandrum. He worked as a professor at Mar Ivanios College and the Department of Malayalam, University of Kerala.
