Kenya Gubernatorial Election In Embu, 2013
Local elections were held in Embu to elect a Governor and County Assembly on 4 March 2013. Under the new constitution, which was passed in a 2010 referendum, the 2013 general elections were the first in which Governors and members of the County Assemblies for the newly created counties were elected. They will also be the first general elections run by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC) which has released the official list of candidates. Embu County
Embu County is a county of Kenya. The capital of Embu County and the former Eastern province headquarters, Embu is a large and largely metropolitan area with a population of 608,599 persons. The county borders Kirinyaga to the west, Kitui to the east, Tharaka Nithi to the north, Machakos to the south. The county occupies an area of 2,821 km2. Runyenjes
Runyenjes is the second largest town in Embu County, Kenya. It is located about 150 km from Nairobi, and 75 km from Mount Kenya, at an altitude of 1500m.The population is estimated at 58,000 people, the majority of which are of the Embu People who speak Kiembu, a Bantu language, as well as Kiswahili and English, the two official languages in Kenya. The area offers scenic views, with densely wooded hills, gentle valleys, flowing streams and rivers, waterfalls, as well as small-scale farms. Etymology Runyenjes derives its name from a popular Chief Runyenje of the colonial era who ruled from Thuci River to Sagana. Martin Nyaga Wambora
Martin Nyaga Wambora (born 9 April 1951) is a Kenyan politician. He is the first governor of Embu County in Kenya after winning on a TNA (The National Alliance) ticket in the Embu gubernatorial elections which was conducted in March 2013. He would later become the first Governor in Kenya to be impeached not once but twice but he successfully challenged the impeachment later and overwhelmingly Re elected in 2017 winning his 2nd term in office. He was a former member of parliament for Runyenjes Constituency from 2003 to 2007. Prior to becoming the governor of Embu county, he served as the chairman of the board of Kenya Airports Authority and led to its winning of the two most prestigious airport industry awards in 2011. The National Alliance (TNA) was a political party in Kenya. It took on its current identity when Uhuru Kenyatta assumed control and renamed it as the vehicle for his 2012 presidential campaign. History The National Alliance was founded as the National Alliance Party of Kenya on 3 July 2000. Forum For The Restoration Of Democracy – Asili
The Forum for the Restoration of Democracy–Asili (FORD–Asili) is a political party in Kenya. It is commonly known as FORD-Asili. Asili means 'original' in Swahili. FORD-Asili has its origins in the original Forum for the Restoration of Democracy. In August 1992, the original FORD (Forum for the Restoration of Democracy) split into two factions. The Odinga- Wamalwa faction remained in the original Nairobi party headquarters at Agip House on Haile Selassie Avenue whilst the Matiba- Shikuku faction moved to Muthithi House on Muthithi Road in Westlands. Thus for a period prior to registration as independent parties, the two factions were known as FORD-Agip and FORD-Muthithi. United Democratic Forum Party
The United Democratic Forum Party (UDF) was a political party in Kenya. History The party was founded in 2012, by a cross section of younger members of Kenya's 10th parliament under the premise of steering reforms to Kenya's governance and boosting economic growth. Its members included Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi. Prior to the 2013 general elections the party joined the Amani Coalition, which nominated the Mudavadi as its presidential candidate.
