Kenya Women's National Rugby Sevens Team
Kenya women's national rugby sevens team plays in several tournaments including the African Women's Sevens Championship, Dubai Invitational Sevens and the Hong Kong Women's Sevens. Kenya's captain Aberdeen Shikoyi died on 29 May 2012 after an injury she sustained in a match against Uganda. Kenya qualified for the 2016 Summer Olympics by winning the 2015 Women's Africa Cup Sevens. In 2019, despite coming second at the 2019 Africa Women's Sevens, Africa Women's Sevens, they qualified for the 2020 Summer Olympics, Tokyo Olympics because South Africa declined their regional spot. Rugby Sevens At The 2018 Commonwealth Games – Women's Tournament
The women's rugby sevens tournament at the 2018 Commonwealth Games was the first time that women's teams had participated in this event. The venue for the competition was Robina Stadium. Background Pool stage Wales qualified on 9 July 2017 after placing fifth at the 2017 Rugby Europe Women's Sevens Grand Prix Series. The pools were confirmed on 2 February 2018, scheduling was announced on 23 February 2018. Rugby Sevens At The 2016 Summer Olympics – Women's Tournament
The women's rugby sevens tournament at the 2016 Summer Olympics was held in Brazil, hosted at the Deodoro Stadium, a temporary outdoor stadium constructed as part of the Deodoro Modern Pentathlon Park in Rio de Janeiro. The tournament was held from 6 August to 8 August 2016, starting with group matches before finishing with the medal ceremony on 8 August. Australia beat New Zealand 24–17 in the final. Canada secured the bronze medal with a win over Great Britain. Qualification With Brazil being the hosts, their team automatically qualified despite their sevens team not regularly appearing in the top 6 on the World Rugby Women's Sevens Series.
