Kentucky Wildcats Softball
The Kentucky Wildcats softball team represents the University of Kentucky in the sport of softball. The Kentucky Wildcats compete in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) and the Southeastern Conference (SEC). The Wildcats play their home games at John Cropp Stadium on the university's Lexington, Kentucky campus, and are currently led by head coach Rachel Lawson. In the history of the Wildcats softball program, the team has made appearances in twelve NCAA Division I Softball Championship, eight Super Regionals, and one Women's College World Series (WCWS). Mitch Barnhart
Mitch Barnhart (born August 27, 1959) is the athletics director for the Kentucky Wildcats athletics program at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky. Barnhart was hired by the university in 2002 succeeding Larry Ivy. Barnhart served in the same capacity at Oregon State University from 1998 to 2002. He is the university's tenth athletics director. In March 2016 Barnhart signed an extension on his contract which will keep him at Kentucky until 2022. Education Barnhart received his Bachelor of Arts from Ottawa University and a Master of Science in sports administration from Ohio University. Tenure at Kentucky Barnhart is currently the longest serving AD in the SEC. For the 2016–17 school year, Kentucky athletics finished 10th nationally in the NACDA Directors' Cup, more than 100 student-athletes graduating, and finishing five straight years with an average GPA of over 3.0. 2013 NCAA Division I Softball Tournament
The 2013 NCAA Division I softball tournament was held from May 16 through June 4, 2013 as the final part of the 2013 NCAA Division I softball season. The 64 NCAA Division I college softball teams were selected out of an eligible 284 teams on May 12, 2012. 31 teams were awarded an automatic bid as champions of their conference, and 33 teams were selected at-large by the NCAA Division I Softball Selection Committee. Southeastern Conference Softball Player Of The Year
The Southeastern Conference Player of the Year is a softball award given to the Southeastern Conference's most outstanding player. The award was first given following the 1997 season, with both pitchers and position players eligible. After the 2002 season, the Southeastern Conference Softball Pitcher of the Year award was created to honor the most outstanding pitcher. Abbey Cheek
Abbey Cheek (born March 18, 1997) is an American softball player for thUSSSA Florida Prideof thWomen's Professional Fastpitch League(WPF) and an Assistant softball coach at Bethune-Cookman University. Early life Cheek attended Chapman High School in Inman, South Carolina. Playing career College Cheek attended the University of Kentucky where she played for the Kentucky Wildcats softball team. She is Kentucky softball's career leader in home runs. Cheek led the Wildcats to four consecutive NCAA Division I softball tournament appearances from 2016 to 2019, including three appearances in the Super Regionals from 2017 to 2019. During her senior season, she ranked second nationally with 64 walks and was third with a .602 on-base percentage and .908 slugging percentage.
