Kentucky's 7th Congressional District
Kentucky's 7th congressional district was a district of the United States House of Representatives in Kentucky Kentucky ( , ), officially the Commonwealth of Kentucky, is a state in the Southeastern region of the United States and one of the states of the Upper South. It borders Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio to the north; West Virginia and Virginia .... It was eliminated in 1993 when reapportionment reduced Kentucky's House representation from seven seats to six. The eastern Kentucky region formerly in the 7th district is now largely in the 5th district. The last congressman to represent the 7th district was Chris Perkins, who succeeded his father, Carl D. Perkins. Congressional districts in the United States are electoral divisions for the purpose of electing members of the United States House of Representatives. The number of voting seats in the House of Representatives is currently set at 435, with each one representing an average of 761,179 people following the 2020 United States census. The number of voting seats has applied since 1913, excluding a temporary increase to 437 after the admissions of Alaska and Hawaii. Thomas Patrick Moore (1797 – July 21, 1853) was a U.S. Representative from Kentucky. Born in Charlotte County, Virginia, Moore attended the common schools. He moved with his parents to Harrodsburg, Kentucky. He attended Transylvania University, Lexington, Kentucky. He served in the War of 1812. He served as captain in the Twelfth Virginia Infantry March 12, 1812 and a major in the Eighteenth Infantry September 20, 1813. He was honorably discharged on June 15, 1815. John Speed Smith
John Speed Smith (July 1, 1792 – June 6, 1854) was an attorney and politician, a U.S. Representative from Kentucky, and a state representative for several terms, as well as state senator. He served for four years as a US District Attorney. He was the father of Green Clay Smith, who also served as a state representative and US Congressman. Early life, education and military service John Speed Smith was born on July 1, 1792, to Mary (née Speed) and William Smith near Nicholasville, Kentucky in Jessamine County.
