Kei Women's Cricket Team
The Kei women's cricket team is the women's representative cricket team based in the South African city of Mthatha. They compete in the Women's Provincial Programme and the CSA Women's Provincial T20 Competition. History Kei Women joined the South African domestic system in the 2010–11 season, playing in the Women's Provincial League, in which they lost all ten of their matches in the West/East Group. Kei have competed in every season of the one-day competition since, but have only ever won one match: in 2017, they beat KwaZulu-Natal Inland by two wickets, helped by Kei bowler Namhla Njani taking 7/24. They have also competed in the CSA Women's Provincial T20 Competition since its inception in 2012–13, but have never won a match in the competition. Mthatha
Mthatha , formerly Umtata, is the main city of the King Sabata Dalindyebo Local Municipality in Eastern Cape province of South Africa and the capital of OR Tambo District Municipality. The city has an airport, previously known as the K. D. Matanzima Airport after former leader Kaiser Matanzima. Mthatha derives its name from the nearby Mthatha River which was named after the sneezewood (umtati) trees, famous for their wood and medicinal properties. CSA Women's Provincial Programme
The CSA Women's Provincial Programme, also known as the CSA Women's Provincial One-Day Tournament, is a women's domestic one-day cricket competition organised by Cricket South Africa. The competition currently sees sixteen provincial teams competing in 50-over matches, and has existed, under various names, since the 1995–96 season. The most successful side in the history of the competition are Western Province, with eight recorded title wins. The holders are North West, who won the 2021–22 tournament. History The tournament began in the 1995–96 as the Women's Inter-Provincial Tournament, with four teams competing: Natal, Northerns, Transvaal and Western Province. The winner is unknown. The CSA Women's Provincial T20 Competition is a women's domestic Twenty20 cricket competition organised by Cricket South Africa. The tournament began in the 2012–13 season, and currently sees sixteen teams competing. Western Province are the most successful side in the history of the competition, with seven title wins, as well as being the current holders, winning the 2021–22 tournament. History The tournament began in the 2012–13 season, running alongside the CSA Women's Provincial League. Sixteen teams competed in four groups, with the group winners progressing to the knockout rounds. Western Province won the competition, beating Gauteng in the final. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The KwaZulu-Natal Inland women's cricket team, also known as the Hollywoodbets Tuskers, is the women's representative cricket team for part of the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal, based primarily in Pietermaritzburg. The captain of a cricket team, often referred to as the skipper, is the appointed leader, having several additional roles and responsibilities over and above those of the other players. The wicket-keeper in the sport of cricket is the player on the fielding side who stands behind the wicket or stumps being watchful of the batsman and ready to take a catch, stump the batsman out and run out a batsman when occasion arises. Nomvelo Sibanda
Nomvelo Sibanda (born 21 November 1996) is a Zimbabwean cricketer who plays for the Zimbabwe women's national cricket team as a left-arm medium bowler. She has previously played for Kei. In January 2019, Sibanda was named in Zimbabwe's Women's Twenty20 International (WT20I) squad for their five-match series against Namibia. Kei were a South African first-class cricket team based in the Eastern Cape city of Mthatha. Playing history When Cricket South Africa decided to expand the Provincial Three-Day Challenge in 2006, Kei were one of five provincial teams (along with KwaZulu-Natal Inland, Limpopo, Mpumalanga and South Western Districts) elevated to first-class status. Kei played seven first-class matches in the 2006–07 season, losing them all by large margins, five of them by an innings. They also lost all six of their matches in the Provincial One-Day Challenge by large margins. None of their matches were played on their home ground in Mthatha. Their most successful batsman in the first-class matches was Sivuyile Duda, who scored 265 runs at an average of 18.92 including the team's only century, 102 against KwaZulu-Natal Inland.
