Keating Residence, Indooroopilly
Keating House is a heritage-listed villa at 10–12 Westminster Road, Indooroopilly, City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by Richard Gailey and built . It is also known as Louis Stamm residence. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 28 May 1999. History This residence on Westminster Road, Indooroopilly, was constructed in about the 1890s as the home of Louis Stamm, a Brisbane-based business man. The building is thought to have been designed by prominent local architect, Richard Gailey. The building was last occupied as a residence in c. 1999. During the 1880s and 1890s Indooroopilly developed as a fashionable suburb with the construction of a number of substantial residences. Louis Stamm, who later built the residence on Westminster Road, purchased a 42-acre block at Indooroopilly on 21 April 1873 only two years before the opening of the Indooroopilly railway station. Indooroopilly is a riverside suburb 7km west of the Brisbane CBD, Queensland, Australia. In the , Indooroopilly had a population of 12,242 people. Geography Indooroopilly is bounded to the south and south-east by the median of the Brisbane River. Alexander Brown Wilson
Alexander Brown Wilson (5 June 1857, in Glasgow, Strathclyde, Scotland – 5 May 1938, in Kangaroo Point, Queensland, Australia) was an architect in Queensland, Australia. A number of his works are listed on the Queensland Heritage Register. Life Alexander Wilson was the fourth son of George Wilson, a silk merchant, and Margaret Watson. The family lived at 168 St. Georges Road, Glasgow in 1861. They migrated to the Colony of Queensland (Australia), arriving in July 1864 aboard the '' Lady Bowen''. He began attending the Normal School. Wilson began work with the Department of Public Works in 1875 and joined the architect F D G Stanley as principal draughtsman in 1882. From 1878, as a draughtsman to Colonel Peter H. Scratchley, Commissioner of Defences for the Australian colonies, Wilson prepared drawings for the Lytton Battery, of which Stanley was architect. Queensland Heritage Act 1992
The ''Queensland Heritage Act 1992'' is an act of the Parliament of Queensland that establishes a legislative framework for registration protection of places of local and statewide significance. The Act established the Queensland Heritage Council and formalised the Queensland Heritage Register. In September 2008, the Act was modified to allow the Queensland Government to compel owners to maintain their heritage property or else be fined up to $75,000. The change was motivated by concerns that the heritage-listed Keating residence in Indooroopilly, Brisbane was being inadequately maintained by its owners. Left unoccupied, the building had been neglected and needed urgent maintenance, which was not being undertaken despite repeated requests. Following the changes to the Act, the owners were served with a maintenance notice to repair doors and windows, clear the drains and fence and mow the yard. Toowong is a riverside suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Toowong had a population of 10,830 people. Geography Toowong is situated between Mount Coot-tha and the Brisbane River and is made up of rolling hills with little flat land. Since European settlement most of the land has been cleared for residential and commercial use with the exception of some park land and bushland near the Western Freeway. At the centre of Toowong is a commercial precinct including Toowong Village, and several other commercial and office buildings. The Shire of Moggill is a former local government area of Queensland, Australia, located in western Brisbane. History Toowong Division was one of the original divisions created on 11 November 1879 under the ''Divisional Boards Act of 1879''. On 20 May 1880, the more populated area of Toowong Division was proclaimed as the Shire of Toowong, with the remaining part of the Toowong Division being renamed Indooroopilly Division on 2 June 1880. In 1890, residents in the Taringa area of the Indooroopilly Division began to agitate for the establishment of a separate division for Taringa. Beth-Eden is a heritage-listed villa at 85 Bank Road, Graceville, City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by Richard Gailey and built from 1888 to 1910s. It is also known as Rakeevan and Verney. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992. History Beth-Eden is a two-storeyed rendered brick house with a weatherboard stables/coach-house, overlooking the Brisbane River. Originally called "Verney", Beth-Eden was erected in 1888 for newspaper proprietor Charles Hardie Buzacott. The architect was Richard Gailey, who in 1884 had designed the Courier Building for Buzacott. In 1895, John Ferguson (Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly), a Rockhampton parliamentarian and a major shareholder in the Mount Morgan Mine company, purchased the property, which became the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. A H Chambers. Moorlands is a heritage-listed villa at 451 Coronation Drive, Auchenflower, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by Richard Gailey and was built by contractor Arthur Smith. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 August 1992. History Moorlands was constructed in 1892 for the Mayne family of Brisbane. It replaced an earlier timber residence on the site which was known as Moorlands Villa. Mary Mayne, widow of Patrick Mayne, had purchased the earlier house and in 1876. Patrick Mayne was a prominent Brisbane resident in the 1860s-1870s who owned a butcher shop in Queen Street, served as an alderman of the Brisbane Municipal Council and speculated in property. Mary Mayne and her five children resided in Moorlands Villa until her death in September 1889.
