Katonah (Metro-North Station)
Katonah station is a commuter rail stop on the Metro-North Railroad's Harlem Line, located in Katonah, New York. As is the case with Brewster, Katonah is not far from the Connecticut border and sees a sizeable number of commuters from Ridgefield using Katonah for commuting as opposed to the Danbury Branch of the New Haven Line given that Katonah gives a faster, direct trip to Grand Central. Similarly, Housatonic Area Regional Transit has a shuttle connecting Ridgefield to Katonah station during peak hours which also connects to Bee-Line Route 19 to Ossining. The station was also formerly known as Mechanicsville. History The original depot at Katonah was moved from its location in "Old Katonah" in 1897, prior to the flooding of the Croton River valley for the New Croton Reservoir, which is today a private residence in the village of Katonah. Katonah is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) within the town of Bedford, Westchester County, in the U.S. state of New York. The Katonah CDP had a population of 1,679 at the 2010 census. History Katonah is named for Chief Katonah, an American Indian from whom the land of Bedford was purchased by a group of English colonists. During the American Revolution military battles or skirmishes did not take place in the area that is now the Village of Katonah. However, most local men joined the Continental side, with some joining the New York 4th Regiment of the Line and most joining the local Militia. Ossining is a village in Westchester County, New York, United States. The population at the 2020 United States census was 27,551, an increase over 25,060 at the 2010 census. As a village, it is located in the town of Ossining. Geography Ossining borders the eastern shores of the widest part of the Hudson River, the Tappan Zee. Croton Falls station is a commuter rail stop on the Metro-North Railroad's Harlem Line, located in North Salem, New York. Putnam County runs a shuttle to the station for commuters closer to its location than those of Brewster and Southeast stations. History Rail service in Croton Falls can be traced as far back as June 1, 1847 with the establishment of the New York and Harlem Railroad. The station was the terminus of the line until it was extended to Dover Plains in 1848. The New York and Harlem Railroad was acquired by the New York Central and Hudson River Railroad in 1864, and converted the original station house into a freight house in 1870, then built a newer station house on the opposite side of the tracks. Muscoot Reservoir
The Muscoot Reservoir is a reservoir in the New York City water supply system in northern Westchester County, New York, located directly north of the village of Katonah. Part of the system's Croton Watershed, it is 25 miles (40 kilometres) north of the City. History The reservoir was constructed at the beginning of the 20th century. It was formed by the damming of the upper half of the Croton Riverby. The reservoir was completed in 1905. During construction, the New York Central Railroad moved Bridge L-158 from the Rondout Creek near Kingston to carry its Mahopac Branch across a section of the reservoir near Goldens Bridge. The New York Central Railroad was a railroad primarily operating in the Great Lakes and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States. The New Croton Reservoir is a reservoir in Westchester County, New York, part of the New York City water supply system lying approximately north of New York City. It is the collecting point for water from all reservoirs in the Croton Watershed. History In 1842 the Croton River, a tributary of the Hudson River, was impounded by the Old Croton Dam to create Croton Lake. New York City's first source of water beyond its city limits, its waters traveled by aqueduct to the Croton Distributing Reservoir in midtown Manhattan.
