Katia's Sister
''Katia's Sister'' ( Dutch: ''Het Zusje van Katia'') is a 2008 film directed by Mijke de Jong. It was adapted by Jan Eilander and Jolien Laarman from a 2001 novel written by Andrés Barba. The film premiered at the Netherlands Film Festival and won two Golden Calf awards. Plot Lucia is a young woman living in Amsterdam. She idolises her beautiful older sister Katia, who is drifting towards the sex industry. Their mother is from Russia and works as a sex worker in the red-light district. Mijke de Jong (born 23 September 1959) is a Dutch film director, screenwriter and producer. She is known for creating films such as ''Bluebird'' (2004), '' Frailer'' (2014), ''Layla M.'' (2016) and ''God Only Knows'' (2019). ''Layla M.'' was selected as the 2018 Dutch entry for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film. The Locarno Film Festival is an annual film festival, held every August in Locarno, Switzerland. The VPRO (stylized vpro; originally an acronym for , ) is a Dutch public broadcaster, which forms a part of the Dutch public broadcasting system. Founded in 1926 as a liberal Protestant broadcasting organization, it gradually became more social liberal than Protestant in the 1950s and 1960s, and the original meaning of the acronym was eventually dropped. Andrés Barba
Andrés Barba (Madrid, 1975) is a Spanish writer and translator graduated in Hispanic Philology from the Complutense University of Madrid, with a degree in Philosophy. He has taught at Bowdoin College, the Complutense University of Madrid and Princeton University. In 2003 he was a resident at the Spanish Academy in Rome. In 2004 he stayed at the Residencia de Estudiantes in Madrid. In 2016 he was invited by the British Council and Queen Mary University of London for a fellowship and in 2018 he received the prestigious Cullman Center Fellowship from the New York Public Library. As a translator he is responsible for more than thirty versions, mostly into Spanish, of authors such as Joseph Conrad, Henry James, Herman Melville, Thomas De Quincey, Lewis Carroll, Rebecca West, Allen Ginsberg, J.R.
