Katastrophenbucht
__NOTOC__ The Katastrophenbucht (″disaster bay″) is a bay on Lake Zug in the city of Zug. Its name derives from a catastrophe in a shore part called ''Vorstadt'', in which the lake shore broke on 5 July 1887 and flooded residential buildings. Description The Katastrophenbucht is about 150 meters long and extends about 70 meters into the shore. It covers the area of the bridge ''Vorstadtbrücke'', which is flanked to the west of the landing stage ''Zug Bahnhofsteg'' of the Zugersee Schifffahrt, and to the east of the ''Rigiecke''. It is part of the boulevard ''Vorstadt''. In 1998, designed the 112-meter-long bay front with ''Trompe-l'œil (mural), Trompe-l'œil'', a color field painting: three warm and two cold color fields (or vice versa) face each other. Trompe-l'œil (mural)
''Trompe-l'œil'' is a 112-meter-long color field painting created in 1998 by Maria Bettina Cogliatti. It overlooks the ''Katastrophenbucht'' ("disaster bay") in Zug, Switzerland. Description Cogliatti painted ''Trompe-l'œil'' in 1998 with acrylic paint on the concrete wall of the Zug Vorstadtbrücke bridge. In this artwork, she juxtaposed three warm color, warm and two cold color color field, fields (or vice versa). 21 color tones are set in contrast to one another in such a way that the colors run from warm yellow-orange on the side of the ''Vorstadtquai'' to rich purple, green and red, and finally towards the ''Alpenquai'' into a cool blue. Thus, they simulate a colored sky, from dusk to dawn. Cogliatti arranged the colored surfaces in order to create illusionistic interruptions, niches and windows in the wall and thus create an imaginary living space, a “colorful city”. Albert Heim
Albert Heim (12 April 184931 August 1937) was a Swiss geologist, noted for his three-volume ''Geologie der Schweiz''. Born in Zürich, he was educated at Zürich and Berlin universities. Very early in life he became interested in the physical features of the Alps, and at the age of sixteen he made a model of the Tödi group. This came to the notice of Arnold Escher von der Linth, to whom Heim was indebted for much encouragement and geological instruction in the field. In 1873 he became professor of geology in the polytechnic school at Zürich, and in 1875 professor of geology in the university. In the same year he married Marie Heim-Vögtlin, Switzerland's first woman physician. In 1882 he was appointed director of the Geological Survey of Switzerland, and in 1884 the honorary degree of PhD was conferred upon him at the University of Berne. A. “Tex” Moncrief Jr. Chair in Computational Engineering and Sciences and is professor of mechanical engineering in thermal fluid systems at the University of Texas at Austin.
