Karin Schnaase
Karin Schnaase (born 14 February 1985) is a German badminton player. She represented her country at the 2016 Summer Olympics. She placed 2nd in her group during group play and did not advance to the next round. She is well known for the broken shoe incident with Laura Sarosi at the 2016 European Badminton Championships, where Sarosi handed her spare shoe to make Schnaase able to continue the match. Schnaase later won the match which made Sarosi unable to gain more points for Olympic badminton qualification. Lüdinghausen ( Westphalian: ''Lünkhusen'' or ''Lünksel'') is a town in district of Coesfeld in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Badminton At The 2016 Summer Olympics
The badminton tournaments at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro took place from 11 to 20 August at the fourth pavilion of Riocentro. A total of 172 athletes competed in five events: men's singles, men's doubles, women's singles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles. Similar to 2012 format, a combination of group play and knockout stages had been maintained at these Games. In all the doubles tournaments, the Badminton World Federation instituted several changes to the competition rules after the match fixing scandal from the previous Olympics, as all pairs finishing second in their groups would be placed into another draw to determine who they face in the next round, while the top pair in each group must have a fixed position matched to its designated seed in the knockout phase. Kirsty Gilmour (born 21 September 1993) is a Scottish badminton player who has represented both Scotland and Great Britain. Career Gilmour won the silver medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, losing out to Michelle Li of Canada in the final and becoming the first Scottish player to reach the women's singles finals at the Commonwealth Games. The Badminton World Federation (BWF) is the international governing body for the sport of badminton recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). It was founded in 1934 as the International Badminton Federation (IBF) with nine member nations (Canada, Denmark, England, France, Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Scotland and Wales). Along with her doubles partner Valeria Sorokina, Vislova is the first Russian Olympic medalist in badminton. Career Vislova won four medals at the European Junior Badminton Championships: two gold medals in women's doubles (2003 and 2005), a silver medal in mixed doubles (2003), and a bronze medal also in mixed doubles (2005).
