Karen Hummer
Karen Hummer (born February 25, 1962), from Cranford, New Jersey, is a former competitor in Judo and a US National Champion. Early life Hummer began judo as a child when her father was a judo instructor at the Judo and Karate Center in Cranford, New Jersey. At age 12, as a third degree brown belt, she competed in the US National Championship in Judo. She defeated four opponents to earn a win. Career Prior to competing at the National Championship, Hummmer earned wins at various state tournaments including one held at Trenton State College. She trained out of New Jersey under judo instructor and two time U.S. Olympic Judo Team coach Yoshisada Yonezuka , was a Judo instructor and two time U.S. Olympic Judo Team coach. Cranford, New Jersey
Cranford is a township in Union County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey, located southwest of Manhattan. As of the 2020 United States census, the township's population was 23,847, an increase of 1,222 (+5.4%) from the 2010 census count of 22,625, which in turn reflected an increase of 47 (+0.2%) from the 22,578 counted in the 2000 census. NJ Transit rail service is available at the Cranford station, along the Raritan Valley train line, with service to Newark Penn Station and to Penn Station in Midtown Manhattan via Midtown Direct. Trenton State College
The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) is a public university in Ewing Township, New Jersey. It is part of New Jersey's public system of higher education. Established in 1855 as the New Jersey State Normal School, TCNJ was the first normal school, or teaching college, in the state of New Jersey and the fifth in the United States. Yoshisada Yonezuka
, was a Judo instructor and two time U.S. Olympic Judo Team coach. Personal life He began training in track and sumo wrestling as a child. In 1954, he began to train in judo in high school and became the Northern Japan High School Champion in 1955. He entered Nihon University in 1956. His children includes a son, Nicolas Yonezuka and a daughter, Natacha Yonezuka-Gullo. Yonezuka died at Hackensack University Medical Center Hackensack, New Jersey on October 18, 2014 of complications of Myelodysplastic syndrome, a rare form of blood cancer that resembles acute leukemia.
