Karel Pacner (29 March 1936 – 7 April 2021) was a Czech publicist, journalist, and writer. Pacner was born in Janovice nad Úhlavou, First Czechoslovak Republic, Czechoslovakia. His main area of focus was space exploration. He died in Prague, aged 85. Asteroid 311119 Pacner, discovered at the Kleť Observatory was named in his memory on 16 June 2021. Janovice Nad Úhlavou
Janovice nad Úhlavou (german: Janowitz an der Angel) is a town in Klatovy District in the Plzeň Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 2,300 inhabitants. Administrative parts Villages of Dolní Lhota, Dubová Lhota, Hvízdalka, Ondřejovice, Petrovice nad Úhlavou, Plešiny, Rohozno, Spůle, Vacovy and Veselí are administrative parts of Janovice nad Úhlavou. Geography Janovice nad Úhlavou is located about west of Klatovy and south of Plzeň. Kleť Observatory
Kleť Observatory ( cz, Hvězdárna Kleť; obs. code: 046) is an astronomical observatory in the Czech Republic. It is situated in South Bohemia, south of the summit of Mount Kleť, near the town of České Budějovice. Constructed in 1957, the observatory is at an altitude of and has around 150 clear nights per year. Astronomers Astronomer Antonín Mrkos became director of Kleť Observatory in 1965. Two main astronomers who currently work at Kleť Observatory are Jana Tichá and her husband Miloš Tichý.
