Kandy Sports Club (Rugby)
Kandy Sports Club (better known as Kandy SC) is a Division 'A' rugby union team, based in Kandy, Sri Lanka, competing in the Dialog Rugby League. The club has been the most successful Sri Lankan club in the Sri Lanka Rugby Championship, winning 18 league titles in the last twenty years, which is the most wins by any club since the expanded competition commenced in 1950. The club has also won twenty Clifford Cups and in the period between 1995 and 2012 the club did not lose a Clifford Cup title, although in 1998 there was no tournament and in 2006 the club withdrew from the tournament. Kandy SC had won the league title for a record nine consecutive years between 2000 and 2009. Sri Lanka Rugby is the governing body for rugby union in Sri Lanka. It is one of the oldest governing bodies in the world, being founded as the Ceylon Rugby Football Union in 1908. History The Ceylon Rugby Football Union was founded in 1908. The Ceylon Rugby Football Union (Ceylon RFU) was founded on 10 August 1908 at a meeting between representatives from Uva, Dimbula, Kelani Valley, Dickoya, Kandy and Colombo at the Grand Orient Hotel (now known as Hotel Taprobane) in Colombo. Srinath Sooriyabandara
Srinath ''Soori'' Sooriyabandara is a Sri Lankan rugby union player who currently plays for the Kandy SC in Dialog Rugby League. He represented Sri Lanka in the 15-man code between 2009 and 2014. He is also a vital part of the National Sevens Team since 2010 and was appointed as Captain of the team for the 2018 Asia Rugby Sevens Series. He usually plays at Scrum half, but due to his versatility he can also cover Fly-Half and Full-back. He was a member of the Sri Lankan Sevens team that won the Shield Championship at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Nigel Ratwatte
Nigel Ratwatte (born 30 April 1990) is a Sri Lankan rugby union player who is the current captain of Kandy SC in Dialog Rugby League. He has represented Sri Lanka in both Rugby 7s and 15s. His usual position is Full-back but due to his versatility, he often covers Fly-Half and Inside Centre. Biography Ratwatte began his education at Trinity College in Kandy, Sri Lanka, where he captained the school's under-13 team. At the age of thirteen his family moved to Mauritius, where he played competitive rugby at St. Nicholas' Grammar School and at the Black River Rugby Club. In 2007 he was selected to represent the national under-18 team during a tour of Madagascar. At eighteen he was selected to play for the Mauritius national rugby union team, becoming the first Sri Lankan national to play for a foreign national rugby team. Dharmaraja College ( si, ධර්මරාජ විද්යාලය), founded in 1887, is a boys' school in Kandy, Sri Lanka. It is a Buddhist school with around 300+ teaching staff and around 5000+ students. Vidyartha College ( Sinhala: විද්යාර්ථ විද්යලය) is an all-male national school located in the Central Province of Sri Lanka.
