Kandy
Kandy ( si, මහනුවර ''Mahanuwara'', ; ta, கண்டி Kandy, ) is a major city in Sri Lanka located in the Central Province. It was the last capital of the ancient kings' era of Sri Lanka. The city lies in the midst of hills in the Kandy plateau, which crosses an area of tropical plantations, mainly tea. Kandy is both an administrative and religious city and is also the capital of the Central Province. Kandy is the home of the Temple of the Tooth Relic ('' Sri Dalada Maligawa''), one of the most sacred places of worship in the Buddhist world. It was declared a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1988. Historically the local Buddhist rulers resisted Portuguese, Dutch, and British colonial expansion and occupation. Kandy Nehova
Kandy Nehova (born 26 September 1946) is a Namibian politician. A member of the Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP), Nehova was a member of the National Assembly of Namibia following the 2009 election. In September 2010, Nehova and eight other opposition politicians were sworn-in as members of the National Assembly following a six-month boycott due to electoral irregularities in the 2009 election. The electoral irregularities were ruled by a court of law to be unfounded. Career Formerly a leading member of SWAPO, Nehova was the first Chairperson of the National Council of Namibia from 1993 to 2004. He represented Ongwediva. The candy or candee (Marathi: खंडी, ''khaṇḍī'';.. Tamil: கண்டி, ''kaṇṭi'';. Malayalam: കണ്ഡി, ''kaṇḍi'',. കണ്ടി, ''kaṇṭi''.), also known as the maunee, was a traditional South Asian unit of mass, equal to 20 maunds. and roughly equivalent to 500 pounds avoirdupois (227 kilograms).. It was most used in southern India, to the south of Akbar's empire, but has been recorded elsewhere in South Asia. In Marathi, the same word was also used for a unit of area of 120 bighas (25 hectares, very approximately), and it is also recorded as a unit of dry volume. Kandy (horse)
Kandy (foaled 1929 – after 1943) was a French Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare. In a racing career which lasted for two months in the spring of 1932 she won one race from three starts. After finishing unplaced on her debut she was sent to England and recorded a 33/1 upset victory in the 1000 Guineas. She was retired from racing after running unplaced in the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches les than a month later. She has been described as one of the worst horses ever to win a British classic race. As a broodmare, however, she did produce one very good horse in the form of the South African champion Kipling. Background Kandy was a bay mare bred in France by her owner Evremond de Saint-Alary and trained by Frank Carter. The filly was named after the city of Kandy in what was then known as Ceylon. The Kingdom of Kandy was a monarchy on the Sri Lanka, island of Sri Lanka, located in the central and eastern portion of the island. It was founded in the late 15th century and endured until the early 19th century.
