Kanchana (1952 Film)
''Kanchana'' is a 1952 Indian drama film produced and directed by S. M. Sriramulu Naidu. The story is based on a popular Tamil novel, ''Kanchanayin Kanavu'', authored by Lakshmi. It was filmed simultaneously in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam languages. Plot Pushpanathan is Zamindar of Mathur and his widowed mother is Ponnammal. He is persuaded by his college mate Manohar to start a textile mill. Manohar manages to manipulate and divert Pushpanathan's wealth. He introduces Pushpanathan to a dancer in the city, Bhanumathi. Bhanumathi, though the daughter of a prostitute, leads an honorable life. Bhanumathi is in love with Pushpanathan. Neelamegham Pillai, the former accountant of the Zamindari, now lives in utter poverty. His grandchildren are Kanchana and Sabeshan. Pushpanathan comes to help his family. Lakshmi (writer)
Thiripurasundari Srinivasan (21 March 1921 – 7 January 1987), better known by her pen name Lakshmi, was an Indian writer from Tamil Nadu. Biography Thiripurasundari was born in Thottiyam in ,Tamil Nadu. Her parents were Dr. Srinivasan and Pattammal (Sivakami). She was schooled at Thottiyam, Musiri and Holy Cross School, Trichy. She studied in Stanley Medical College and became a medical doctor. She began publishing short stories in ''Ananda Vikatan'' while still at college. She used "Lakshmi" as her pen name. Her first short story to be published was ''Thagunda thandanaya?'' (lit. An apt punishment?). Her first novel to be published was ''Bhavani''. After completing her medical education, she practiced at Chennai. She married Kannabiran in 1955 and moved to South Africa, where she lived for the next twenty two years. Her husband died in 1966. Muthuswami Dikshitar
Muthuswami Dikshitar (Mudduswamy Dikshitar)(, 24 March 1776 – 21 October 1835), mononymously Dikshitar, was a South Indian poet, singer and veena player, and a legendary composer of Indian classical music, who is considered one of the musical trinity of Carnatic music. Muthuswami Dikshitar was born on 24 March 1775 in Tiruvarur near Thanjavur, in what is now the state of Tamil Nadu in India, to a family that is traditionally traced back to Virinichipuram in the northern boundaries of the state. His compositions, of which around 500 are commonly known, are noted for their elaborate and poetic descriptions of Hindu gods and temples and for capturing the essence of the raga forms through the vainika (veena) style that emphasises gamakas. Madabhushi Rangadorai (born 8 November 1937), better known by his pen name Randor Guy, is an Indian lawyer, columnist and film and legal historian associated with the English language newspaper ''The Hindu''. Kalyani is a melakarta raga (parent musical scale) in the Carnatic music. It was called Kalyan but is now more popularly called Yaman (raga), Yaman in Hindustani Music.
