Kalundborg Railway Station
Kalundborg railway station ( da, Kalundborg Station or ''Kalundborg Banegård'') is the main railway station serving the town of Kalundborg in northwestern Zealand, Denmark. It is located in the centre of the town, close to the Port of Kalundborg, and immediately adjacent to the Kalundborg bus station and Kalundborg ferry terminal. Kalundborg station is located on the main line (railway), main line Northwest Line (Denmark), Northwest Line from Roskilde to Kalundborg. The station opened in 1874, and its second and current station building designed by the architect Ole Ejnar Bonding was inaugurated in 1960. It offers direct regional rail services to Holbæk, Roskilde and Copenhagen operated by the national railway company DSB (railway company), DSB. Region Zealand ( da, Region Sjælland) is the southernmost administrative region of Denmark, established on 1 January 2007 as part of the 2007 Danish Municipal Reform, which abolished the traditional counties ("amter") and set up five larger regions. The Capital Region of Denmark ( da, Region Hovedstaden, ) is the easternmost administrative region of Denmark. The Capital Region has 29 municipalities and a regional council consisting of 41 elected members. As of 1 August 2021 the chairperson is Lars Gaardhøj, who is a member of the Social Democrats party of Denmark. The Capital Region was established on 1 January 2007 as part of the 2007 Danish Municipal Reform. The five Regions of Denmark ( da, regioner) were created as administrative entities at a level above the municipalities and below the central government in the public sector as part of the 2007 Danish Municipal Reform, when the 13 counties ('' amter'') were abolished. At the same time, the number of municipalities ('' kommuner'') was cut from 270 to 98. The rail transport system in Denmark consists of 2,633 km of railway lines, of which the Copenhagen S-train network, the main line Helsingør-Copenhagen-Padborg (at the German border), and the Lunderskov-Esbjerg line are electrified. Most traffic is passenger trains, although there is considerable transit goods traffic between Sweden and Germany.
