Kaiwera Downs Wind Farm
The Kaiwera Downs Wind Farm is a wind farm under construction in the Southland, New Zealand, Southland region of New Zealand. It is expected to have a maximum capacity of 240MW and use up 83 turbines. Originally proposed by Trustpower, it will now be owned and operated by Mercury Energy. The New Zealand Ministry for Culture and Heritage gives a translation of "hot food" for ''Kaiwera''. Waimumu
Waimumu is a rural settlement town in the Gore District and Southland Region of New Zealand's South Island. It is located west of Gore, about 14 kilometres from the main township. Waimumu School operated from 1888 to c.1996. The settlement hosts the Southern Field Days, a biennial agricultural trade show. It is held across a site, attracting about 700 exhibitors and 40,000 attendees. History Europeans began farming either side of the Waimumu Stream in the 19th century. By 1901, the Waimumu Hundreds settlement had 608 people, and a public school with 21 students which held Presbyterian church services every month. Southland ( mi, Murihiku) is New Zealand's southernmost region. It consists mainly of the southwestern portion of the South Island and Stewart Island/Rakiura. Charles Tripp (runholder)
Charles George Tripp (1 July 1826 – 6 July 1897) was a pioneering sheep farmer in South Canterbury, New Zealand. Together with his friend and business partner John Acland, he was the first to use the Canterbury high country for sheep farming. Early life Tripp was born in Kentisbeare, Mid Devon, England in 1826. His parents were the rector Rev. Charles Tripp and Frances Tripp (née Owen). He received his education at the Merchant Taylors' School in London before studying law. He was called to the bar on 30 April 1853 and introduced his friend, John Acland, to members of the Canterbury Association, who proposed the organised settlement of Canterbury in New Zealand with Anglican ideals; introductions included those to James FitzGerald and John Robert Godley. Acland also worked in law. Sheep farming Acland and Tripp gave up their profession and emigrated to New Zealand in 1854 in the ''Royal Stuart'' to become sheep farmers.
