Kabul–Behsud Highway
The Kabul–Behsud Highway, formally National Highway 13, NH13, is a highway connecting Kabul in Afghanistan to Behsud in the west, passing through Maidan Wardak Province. It is cited as a highly dangerous route, prone to hijackings, beheadings, kidnappings and robberies, particularly in the districts of Jalrez and Markazi Bihsud, and has obtained the moniker "Death Road" due to the frequency of Taliban killings along the route. History In 2008, the Ministry of Public Works began the process of rehabilitating 136 kilometres of the highway, aided by 36 million euros funding from the Italian government. The first phase of the project, Lot No 1, began in 2008 with the rehabilitation of a 54 kilometre stretch of earth road starting in Maidan Shar and working towards the Onai Pass in Jalrez District. Kabul

Bamyan
Bamyan or Bamyan Valley (); ( prs, بامیان) also spelled Bamiyan or Bamian is the capital of Bamyan Province in central Afghanistan. Its population of approximately 70,000 people makes it the largest city in Hazarajat. Bamyan is at an altitude of about above sea level. The Bamyan Airport is located in the middle of the city. The driving distance between Bamyan and Kabul in the southeast is approximately . The Band-e-Amir National Park is to the west, about a half-hour drive from the city of Bamyan. Takana, Afghanistan
Takana, also Takānah-ye Bālā, is a subdistrict and village of Jalrez District, Maidan Wardak Province, Afghanistan. It lies along the Kabul–Behsud Highway, to the west of the town of Jalrez. History The Taliban invaded Takana and Jalrez on July 20, 1997. Wahdat forces, consisting of mainly Hazaras, retreated into the valley and reportedly took out 70 Taliban in a counterattack, setting them on fire. Demographics Though mainly ethnic Hazaras, a population of Tajiks live in the village. there are also Sadat ethnic group who are living in Takana. the people speaks persian in Takana and it has been said that majority of people in Takana are Tajiks ethnic group. Kot-e Ashro
Kot-e Ashro (also Kotah-ye `Ashro, Kot-i-Ashro, Kuteh-Ashro) (Pashto:کوټه عښرو ) is a small town in the western Paghman Mountains of Jalrez District, Maidan Wardak Province, Afghanistan. It was formerly the district capital until it was taken by the Taliban in 2006. The town lies along the Kabul–Behsud Highway, by road northwest of Maidan Shar. History During the Soviet–Afghan War it was a stronghold of the ''mujahideen ''Mujahideen'', or ''Mujahidin'' ( ar, مُجَاهِدِين, mujāhidīn), is the plural form of ''mujahid'' ( ar, مجاهد, mujāhid, strugglers or strivers or justice, right conduct, Godly rule, etc. doers of jihād), an Arabic term th ...''. Behsūd ( prs, بهسود) is a town in Maidan Wardak Province, central Afghanistan. It is the administrative center of Markazi Bihsud District. The town of Behsud has a population of 4,619. Zaiwalat
Zaiwalat, also Zaywalāyat or Zywlayt (Pashto: زیولایت) is a subdistrict and village of Jalrez District, Maidan Wardak Province, Afghanistan. It lies along the Kabul-Behsud Highway, to the west of Kot-e Ashro and to the east of the town of Jalrez. As of 2010 the village itself had a population of about 300 people. It is inhabited mainly by Pashtuns, Pashtuns and is a producer of fruit, with extensive orchards in the vicinity. History In 2009, American convoys were ambushed by the Taliban in the predominantly Pashtun village of Zaiwalat. The US retaliated and invaded the village at 3.15am on November 19, 2009, capturing nine locals, including Habib ur-Rahman, a suspected Talibanist, and taking them by helicopter to Rish-Khor for a three-day interrogation. As of 2010 the village had an estimated people of about 300 people. In 2014, a bridge was built in Zaiwalat. In September 2016, 11 men from the village were kidnapped by unidentified gunmen. Onai Pass
The Unai Pass or Onai Pass is a mountain pass on the western side of the Paghman Mountains in Jalrez District, Maidan Wardak Province, Afghanistan. It is of strategical importance due to its geographical location to the southwest of Kabul. The Sarchashma River flows through the pass, which is the upstream part of the Kabul River. The Maidan River, a tributary of the Kabul/Sarchashma rises at the pass at an altitude of about . Due to its importance, the pass has a long history of being involved in conflict in Afghanistan. In 1929, Muhammad Mir Fath (1901-1964) was one of three Hazara commanders who defeated the forces of Habibullah Kalakani at the pass between March and September of that year.
