KRBA
KRBA (1340 AM), is a terrestrial American radio station, licensed to Lufkin, Texas, United States. The station is currently owned by Kasa Family Limited Partnership. History KRBA began broadcasting on May 3, 1938 at 100 watts of daytime only power, operating on 1310 kilocycles in the AM radio band. A License to Cover was issued for the facility on June 15, 1938. It is the first broadcast facility to be licensed in Lufkin-Nacogdoches. The facility increased power to 250 watts unlimited hours on July 13, 1939. During an industry wide frequency reallocation procedure under the NARBA agreement, on March 28, 1941 the station's operation was moved by the FCC to 1340 kilocycles. Lufkin, Texas
Lufkin is the largest city in Angelina County, Texas and the county seat. The city is situated in Deep East Texas and about 60 miles west of the Texas-Louisiana border. Its estimated population is 35,021 as of July 1, 2019. Lufkin was founded in 1884 and named for Abraham P. Lufkin. It originally served as a stop on the Houston, East and West Texas Railway. It was officially incorporated on October 15, 1890. Lufkin continued to serve as a stop on the railroad until 1890. Three businessmen founded Angelina Lumber Company, which led to much of the economic prosperity Lufkin later had. Corrigan, Texas
Corrigan is a town in north central Polk County, Texas. It is located along U.S. Highway 59 and is about 100 miles from Houston. Its population was 1,477 in the 2020 census. Background Corrigan largely emerged when the Houston East and West Texas Railway was completed in 1881; though, the area had seen some establishment of mills and farms prior to the railroad. The town was named Corrigan after Pat Corrigan, the conductor of the first train to pass through the newly built railway in the area. In the years following, the timber industry boomed in Corrigan due to the large pine trees native to the area and access to the railroad. By 1882, there were 17 sawmills in the Corrigan area. In broadcasting and radio communications, a call sign (also known as a call name or call letters—and historically as a call signal—or abbreviated as a call) is a unique identifier for a transmitter station. A call sign can be formally assigned by a government agency, informally adopted by individuals or organizations, or even cryptographically encoded to disguise a station's identity. The use of call signs as unique identifiers dates to the landline railroad telegraph system. Because there was only one telegraph line linking all railroad stations, there needed to be a way to address each one when sending a telegram. In order to save time, two-letter identifiers were adopted for this purpose.
