KOSW (88.9 FM) is an American radio station broadcasting a Variety format. It is licensed to Ocean Shores, Washington, United States. The station is owned by City of Ocean Shores. KOSW, began operation in July 2004 at FM 91.3 as a non-profit organization by volunteers of the Ocean Shores, Washington community, The station's mission was to inform the residents of Ocean Shores and visitors of events and other need-to-know information including evacuation instructions in the event of an emergency. It is now owned by the city of Ocean Shores and operated as a public service to all the North Beach area communities. The station continues to be staffed entirely by volunteers. Its programming features virtually every musical genre including "oldies", classic rock, big bands, jazz, country/western, classical, opera, talk and Celtic. Ocean Shores, Washington
Ocean Shores is a city in Grays Harbor County, Washington, United States. The population was 6,715 at the 2020 census. History The City of Ocean Shores occupies the Point Brown peninsula on the Washington coast. Long before the arrival of European explorers and settlers, the peninsula was used by the various local tribes for trading and other purposes. The Chinook, Chehalis, and Quinault tribes used the area, as well as others that now make up the Quinault Indian Nation. On May 7, 1792, Captain Robert Gray sailed into the bay and named the area Bullfinch Harbor. Later, Captain George Vancouver renamed the area Grays Harbor after Captain Gray. The first established white settler on the Point was Matthew McGee, who settled in the early 1860s. He sold the southern portion of the peninsula to A.O. Variety is a radio format that plays music across numerous genres. Free-form variety is associated with a wide range of programming including talk, sports, and music from a wide spectrum. This format is usually found on smaller, non-commercial public broadcasting stations such as college radio, community radio or high school radio stations. If a variety formatted station has a program director, that person exerts little if any influence on the music or other programming choices beyond the normal regulatory control required by that country's licensing regulations. FM broadcasting is a method of radio broadcasting using frequency modulation (FM). Invented in 1933 by American engineer Edwin Armstrong, wide-band FM is used worldwide to provide high fidelity sound over broadcast radio.
