KFXD-TV
KFXD-TV was the first television station in the U.S. state of Idaho. It broadcast on channel 6 from Nampa for less than two months in the summer of 1953, between June 18 and August 11. Owned by radio station KFXD ( 580 AM), it did not have any network affiliation and aired very limited programming. All programs originated from the transmitter site, located at Deer Point in the Boise National Forest. History In July 1952, Frank Hurt & Son, Inc., owner of KFXD, filed with the Federal Communications Commission to build a new commercial television station on channel 6 in Nampa, proposing a full facility to broadcast at 19,720 watts. The application was granted on March 11, 1953. After a remarkably low $25,000 investment, the first television test pattern in Idaho made it onto screens as far away as Weiser and Ontario, Oregon, on June 18, with lieutenant governor Edson Deal helping put the station on the air. KIVI-TV (channel 6) is a television station licensed to Nampa, Idaho, United States, serving the Boise area as an affiliate of ABC. It is owned by the E. W. Scripps Company, which provides certain services to Caldwell-licensed Fox affiliate KNIN-TV (channel 9, which was directly co-owned with KIVI from 2009 to 2015) under a shared services agreement (SSA) with Gray Television. Both stations share studios on East Chisholm Drive in Nampa (along I-84/US 30/ SH-55), while KIVI-TV's transmitter is located at the Bogus Basin ski area summit in unincorporated Boise County. KCIX-TV was a television station broadcasting on channel 6 in Nampa, Idaho, United States, from November 9, 1958, to January 4, 1960. It was the second attempt to establish a station on the allocation, after KFXD-TV, which had lasted two months in 1953. History Radio Boise, Inc.—soon changed to the Hagadone Broadcasting Company—received the construction permit to build a new channel 6 TV station from the Federal Communications Commission on March 27, 1958. Hagadone had recently sold KYME radio in Boise and at the time of the grant was owner of a radio station in Soda Springs. The station signed on November 9, 1958, from leased space in the Nampa transmitter building of KFXD (580 AM) and an antenna on one of the station's towers; plans called for the eventual establishment of the station's own studio base in Nampa. KTVB (channel 7) is a television station in Boise, Idaho, United States, affiliated with NBC and owned by Tegna Inc. The station's studios are located on West Fairview Avenue (off I-184) in Boise, and its transmitter is located at the Bogus Basin ski area summit in unincorporated Boise County. The station also operates a low-power repeater in Twin Falls, KTFT-LD (channel 7). The two signals are identical, with the exception of commercials, which are sold and targeted to the Magic Valley area.
