KDXL
KDXL (106.5 FM broadcasting, FM) was a student operated radio station at St. Louis Park High School in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. The station's frequency was 106.5, which it shared with the University of Minnesota, University of Minnesota's KUOM, KUOM-FM in a timeshare, timesharing agreement. The station was owned by Independent School District #283. History The station began in 1973 with a low-power signal that could only reach a portion of St. Louis Park High School; during this period, the station used the call signs WHAT, WSLP, and KTS. In 1977, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) granted the school district a license to operate a 10-watt radio station, which took the call sign KDXL. KDXL operated at 91.7 through 1985; it changed frequencies so that it would not have a frequency close to KQRS-FM. KUOM (770 AM) – branded ''Radio K'' – is a daytime-only non-commercial educational college/alternative rock radio station licensed to serve Minneapolis, Minnesota. KUOM covers the Minneapolis–Saint Paul metropolitan area, and extends its reach with three low-power broadcast relay stations and one full-power repeater that also allow KUOM's programming to be heard 24 hours a day. Owned by the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, the station is operated by both faculty and students. The KUOM studios are located at the Rarig Center on the University of Minnesota campus, while the station transmitter is in Falcon Heights. KQRS-FM (92.5 FM, KQ92 or 92 KQRS) is a Classic Rock radio station in the Twin Cities region of Minnesota. The station is licensed to suburban Golden Valley, transmits from the KMSP-TV tower in Shoreview, and is owned by Cumulus Media, with studios in Southeast Minneapolis in the Como district. History The original call letters were KEVE-FM and the station was co-owned with sister AM station KEVE. KEVE's AM history predates the FM by 14 years; it launched in May 1948, and was owned by Family Broadcasting until mid-1956 and was known until at least then as KEYD, co-owned with KEYD-TV (now KMSP-TV and launched by Family Broadcasting in January 1955).
