KBCQ-FM
KBCQ-FM (97.1 FM) is a radio station broadcasting a contemporary hit radio music format licensed to Roswell, New Mexico, United States. The station is currently owned by Majestic Communications. History Troy Raymond Moran received the construction permit for a new radio station in Roswell on June 29, 1976. The new station, designated KRSY-FM and an adjunct to KRSY (1230 AM), went on the air October 5, 1977. A year later, on October 15, 1978, the station changed its call letters to KRIZ and began airing an album-oriented rock format. Two years later, Gary Acker and his Good News Broadcasting Company acquired KRIZ, resulting in a flip to contemporary religious music and other programming from local churches. The sale of KRIZ to Acker formed half of a transaction by which Moran acquired the construction permit for channel 14 in Amarillo, Texas and Acker received the radio station as well as $325,000 in cash. KCKN
KCKN (1020 kHz) is an AM radio station broadcasting a Spanish Religious radio format in Roswell, New Mexico. It is owned by Radio Vision Cristiana Subsidiary Corp. Much of the programming is also heard on co-owned WWRV 1330 AM in New York City. KCKN is powered at 50,000 watts, the maximum for AM stations licensed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). It is a Class B outlet, required to protect Class A clear channel station KDKA Pittsburgh. So KCKN uses a directional antenna at all times, with a three-tower array by day and a six-tower array at night. KCKN's transmitter is on La Luz Road at Old Clovis Highway in Roswell. Licensed to Roswell, New Mexico, United States, the station is currently owned by Majestic Communications LLC. and is programmed by longtime radio personality J.R. Law. It is simulcast on 92.5 FM and covers Chaves County, New Mexico. History In the mid- to late 1970s and early 1980s, the station was operated on 1020 AM at the old KSWS facility northeast of Roswell. Album-oriented rock (AOR, originally called album-oriented radio) is an FM radio format created in the United States in the 1970s that focuses on the full repertoire of rock albums and is currently associated with classic rock. Album-oriented radio was originally established by U.S. radio stations dedicated to playing album tracks by rock artists from the hard rock to progressive rock genres. In the mid-1970s, AOR was characterized by a layered, mellifluous sound and sophisticated production with considerable dependence on melodic hooks.
