K-on!
is a Japanese four-panel manga series written and illustrated by Kakifly serialized in Houbunsha's '' Manga Time Kirara'' magazine between the May 2007 and October 2010 issues, and also serialized in Houbunsha's '' Manga Time Kirara Carat'' magazine. The manga relaunched from April 2011 to June 2012 with two separate storylines published in ''Manga Time Kirara'' and ''Manga Time Kirara Carat''. The manga is licensed in North America by Yen Press. A spin-off manga about a different band of high school girls, ''K-On! Shuffle'', began serialization in July 2018. A 13-episode anime television series adaptation by Kyoto Animation aired in Japan between April and June 2009. An additional original video animation (OVA) episode was released in January 2010. A 26-episode second season, titled ''K-On!!'' (with two exclamation marks), aired in Japan between April and September 2010, with an OVA episode released in March 2011. Kyoto Animation
, often abbreviated , is a Japanese animation studio and light novel publisher located in Uji, Kyoto Prefecture. Founded in 1985 by Yoko and Hideaki Hatta, it has produced anime works including '' The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya'' (2006), ''Clannad'' (2007), ''K-On!'' (2009), ''Free!'' (2013), ''Sound! Euphonium'' (2015), '' A Silent Voice'' (2016), and '' Violet Evergarden'' (2018). History Kyoto Animation was co-founded in 1985 by married couple Yoko and Hideaki Hatta; it became a limited company in 1985 and a corporation in 1999. Yoko Hatta, who serves as the company's vice president, had worked as a painter at Mushi Production until she moved to Kyoto after marrying her husband, who serves as president. The company's logo originates from the kanji ''kyō'' (), the first character of Kyoto ().
