K-13 (Kansas Highway)
K-13 is a state highway in the northeastern part of the US state of Kansas. It begins at U.S. Route 24 (US-24) north of Manhattan and runs north to K-16 southwest of Fostoria. K-13 serves as the only northeasterly route out of Manhattan. The majority of the highway is exclusively in Pottawatomie County, with less than a mile of it existing in Riley County. The first traverse Tuttle Creek State Park, and crosses the Tuttle Creek Lake dam. K-13 was first designated as a state highway in 1927, and at that time ran from US-77 in De Graff northward to Manhattan. By 1932, K-13 was realigned to intersect US-77 further south in El Dorado. By 1933, K-13 was extended north from Manhattan to K-9 north of Barrett. In 1958, K-13 was rerouted to cross the Tuttle Creek Dam and continue northward to K-16 southwest of Fostoria. Manhattan is a city and county seat of Riley County, Kansas, United States, although the city extends into Pottawatomie County. It is located in northeastern Kansas at the junction of the Kansas River and Big Blue River. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 54,100. K-213 (Kansas Highway)
K-177 is a south–north state highway in central Kansas. It runs from U.S. Route 54 (US-54) near El Dorado northward to US-24 in Manhattan, passing through the Flint Hills. It is part of the Flint Hills Scenic Byway and the Prairie Parkway. Route description From its beginnings at US-54 east of El Dorado, K-177 heads northward for then crosses Bird Creek. The highway then curves northeast and travels about then curves back north. It continues about then begins to cross the Bemis Creek leg of El Dorado Lake, providing access to El Dorado Lake along the way. It continues north for then crosses the Satchel Creek leg of El Dorado Lake. K-177 continues another then crosses Durechen Creek. Blue Rapids, Kansas
Blue Rapids is a city in Marshall County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 928. History The first endeavor to establish a town below the junction of the rivers, in 1857, failed due to misfortunes of two of the three participants. No further attempt to utilize the impressive water power was made until 1869–1870, when a colony of about 50 families from Genesee County, New York moved in, purchased land and water power rights, and began establishing a community. The Blue Rapids Town Company was formed, and by the end of 1870 the population was about 250. In 1872, Blue Rapids was incorporated as a city of third class under the statutes of Kansas. Among the first projects in 1870 were a stone dam and a wrought iron bridge built on the Big Blue River. K-113 (Kansas Highway)
K-113 is a north–south state highway entirely within Riley County in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of Kansas. It runs from K-18 in southern Manhattan to U.S. Route 24 (US-24), through the city's western areas. In Manhattan, it is named after Seth Child, an early Manhattan pioneer. Most of the highway is four-laned with mixed-access, and serves as a major arterial highway for the city's western portions, as well as traffic accessing Kansas State University's athletic facilities. It is almost wholly inside the Manhattan city limits, and ends near the Riley County shops along US-24 north of Manhattan. The original K-113 was designated by 1936, and traveled from K-13 west of Bigelow north to K-9 in Blue Rapids. This alignment was decommissioned in late 1958. Alta Vista is a city in Wabaunsee County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 409. History Alta Vista was founded in 1887, and it was incorporated as a city in 1905. Alta Vista is derived from the Spanish word for "high view", and the city was so named from its lofty elevation. In 1887, the Chicago, Kansas and Nebraska Railway built a main line from Topeka through Alta Vista to Herington. Dwight is a city in Morris County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 217. History Dwight had its start in the year 1887 by the building of the Chicago, Kansas and Nebraska Railway through that territory. It was named for Dwight Rathbone, the owner of the original town site. Dwight was incorporated as a city in 1903. Council Grove, Kansas
Council Grove is a city and county seat in Morris County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 2,140. It was named after an agreement between American settlers and the Osage Nation allowing settlers' wagon trains to pass westward through the area on the Santa Fe Trail. Pioneers gathered at a grove of trees so that wagons could band together for their trip west. History Council Grove was a stop on the Santa Fe Trail. The first European-American settler was Seth M.
