Karlis Johansons
Karl Johansson (January 16, 1890 in Cēsis, Latvia, as Kārlis Johansons in his native Latvian; Russian: Карл Вольдемарович Иогансон, ''Karl Voldemarovich Ioganson;'' German: ''Karl Ioganson'' – October 18, 1929 in Moscow, USSR) was a Latvian-Soviet avant-garde artist. Kārlis Klāsups (July 1, 1922, Zaļenieki parish – August 1, 1991, Riga) was a Latvian chess master who won Latvian Chess Championship in 1959. Chess career Kārlis Klāsups participated in the Latvian Chess Championship finals 12 times. He won third place twice. (1950, 1955) but in 1959 Kārlis Klāsups reached the greatest success in own career and divided first place in this tournament with Pēteris Kampenuss. Kārlis Lācis (born September 21, 1977) is a Latvian contemporary composer. Along with the scores for theatre productions, movies, and musical arrangements, a large part of his work is dedicated to vocal and choral music, symphonic, and instrumental compositions, including "Te Deum" (2014) with the State Choir Latvija, and double concerto for flute, oboe and orchestra "42.195" (2014) with Liepaja symphony orchestra. Kārlis Baumanis
Kārlis Baumanis (11 May 1835 – 10 January 1905), better known as Baumaņu Kārlis, was an ethnic Latvian people, Latvian composer in the Russian Empire. He is the author of the lyrics and music of '' Dievs, svētī Latviju! '' (“God bless Latvia!”), the national anthem of Latvia. Kārlis Baumanis was the first composer to use the word “Latvia” in the lyrics of a song, in the 19th century, when Latvia was still a part of the Russian Empire. Kārlis Būmeisters (born December 13, 1986 in Riga) is a Latvian musician, artist, guitarist and TV host once using the stage name Kaža. He is now in politics in the European Parliament in Brussels as a press secretary for the European Parliament Member Roberts Zīle who is part of the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group. Biography From the age of three, Būmeister appeared as a child singer on Latvian television. He eventually hosted the award-winning show ''Lie Lab'' on LTV. Būmeisters' musical career continued with the band Dzeguzīte. He then became a member of Putnu Balle, a musical band formed in 2002 with Mārtiņš Freimanis (a former member of the famous Latvian band Tumsa). Kārlis Irbītis (October 14, 1904, in Limbaži municipality, Lāde parish, Governorate of Livonia – October 13, 1997, in Saint-Laurent (borough), Saint-Laurent, Quebec, Canada) was a Latvian aeroplane designer. His greatest successes, for the VEF Factory, were the sports plane VEF I-12 (1935) and the monoplane VEF I-16 (1939), used as a fighter. Kārlis Skalbe ( — 1945 April 14) was a Latvian writer, poet, and activist. He is best known for his 72 fairy tales which are really written for adults. He has been called the 'King of Fairytales', and his words, ''Tēvzemei un Brīvībai'' (''For Fatherland and Freedom''), are inscribed on the Monument of Freedom in Riga. Childhood and schooling Skalbe was born in Vecpiebalga Parish, in the heart of Vidzeme, symbolically the same year that one of the other greats of Latvian literature, the poet Auseklis ( Miķelis Krogzemis), died in exile. His father Jānis was a blacksmith; his mother, Ede, was, like his father, a Piebalga native. Kārlis Gailītis
Kārlis Gailītis (3 March 1936 – Sabile, 22 November 1992) was a Latvian Lutheran archbishop. He was the archbishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Latvia, from 1989 to 1992, when he died in a car accident. Life and career Gailītis was born in a family of teachers. He studied at the Evangelical Lutheran Theological Seminary, from 1971 to 1976. In September 1976, he was ordained a pastor. He started working afterwards at the Luther Church, in Riga, where he would serve until his election as archbishop. He worked as Secretary of the Consistory from 1981. In 1986, he obtained a master's degree in theology. He was a professor of comparative religion in the Theological Seminary for several years.
