Jüri Toomepuu
Jüri Toomepuu (born 27 June 1930, in Tõlliste Parish, Valga County) is an Estonian journalist and politician. He was a member of the seventh legislature of the Estonian Parliament. Biography He was born on 27 June 1930 in Tõlliste Parish, Valga County. His father Juhan Toomepuu (1902–1990) fought as a 16-year-old volunteer in the Estonian War of Independence and was an officer in the Estonian Navy. Toomepuu studied in Viljandi, Nõmme and Tallinn schools from 1937 until 1943. In 1943, the family fled to Sweden, then to the United States. He studied at the City College of New York University and the University of Alaska, graduating from the University of Southern California with a master's degree in systems management. He joined the United States Army at the age of 20 to fight in the Korean War as an infantryman. Distinguished Service Cross (United States)
The Distinguished Service Cross (DSC) is the United States Army's second highest military decoration for soldiers who display extraordinary heroism in combat with an armed enemy force. Actions that merit the Distinguished Service Cross must be of such a high degree that they are above those required for all other U.S. combat decorations, but which do not meet the criteria for the Medal of Honor. The Army Distinguished Service Cross is equivalent to the Navy and Marine Corps' Navy Cross, the Air Force and Space Force's Air Force Cross, and the Coast Guard Cross. The 1st Infantry Division is a combined arms division of the United States Army, and is the oldest continuously serving division in the Regular Army. The Estonian government-in-exile was the formally declared governmental authority of the Republic of Estonia in exile, existing from 1944 until the reestablishment of Estonian sovereignty over Estonian territory in 1991 and 1992. It traced its legitimacy through constitutional succession to the last Estonian government in power prior to the Soviet invasion of 1940.
