Júlio Cesar De Arruda
Júlio Cesar de Arruda (born 9 January 1959) is a general in the Brazilian Army. He has served as chief of the army's Department of Engineering and Construction. He was the commander of the Brazilian Army from 30 December 2022 to 21 January 2023. Biography Arruda was born on 9 January 1959 in Cuiabá. He joined the army in 1975. Two years later, he joined the '' Academia Militar das Agulhas Negras''. In his military career, he served in engineering units in Itajubá, Rio de Janeiro, Cuiabá, and Brasília. As lieutenant colonel, he advised the Institutional Security Bureau of the Presidency of the Republic (2000–01) and commanded the 1st Battalion of Special Forces in Goiânia, in the (2005–06). 1º Batalhão de Forças Especiais (1º B F Esp) (English: 1st Special Forces Battalion) is a counter-terrorism (CT) unit of the Brazilian Army. History The Battalion was initially formed in 1957 as a jungle rescue unit. However, in 1968 it was reorganized as a special forces unit. In 1983 the unit was expanded and placed under the parachute infantry brigade structure. Flávio Dino
Flávio Dino de Castro e Costa (born 30 April 1968) is a Brazilian attorney, politician and teacher. A former federal judge, Dino was elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 2006, serving a four-year term until 2011, representing the state of Maranhão. He was elected as the governor of Maranhão after running in the 2014 election. He became the governor of Maranhão on 1 January 2015. He was reelected in 2018. 2023 Brazilian Congress Attack
On 8 January 2023, following the defeat of then-president Jair Bolsonaro in the 2022 Brazilian general election, a mob of his supporters attacked Brazil's federal government buildings in the capital, Brasília. The mob invaded and vandalized the Supreme Federal Court, the National Congress building and the Planalto Presidential Palace in the Three Powers Plaza, seeking to violently overthrow the democratically elected president of Brazil Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (Lula), who had been inaugurated on 1 January. Many rioters said their purpose was to spur military leaders to launch a coup d'état and disrupt the democratic transition of power. Neither Lula nor Bolsonaro were in Brasília at the time of the attack. The attack occurred a week after Lula's inauguration and followed several weeks of unrest from Bolsonaro's supporters.
