Jérôme Havre
Jérôme Havre is a Toronto-based artist originally from Paris, France. Early life and education Havre studied at École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He moved to Montreal before settling in Toronto, where he was the artist-in-residence at the Art Gallery of Ontario from December 7, 2015 to March 26, 2016. Havre has exhibited in the Textile Museum of Canada. Works Havre employs a variety of media in his work, including textiles, sculpture, video and photography. These media are often combined to create immersive environments, as in the 2013 show ″Re-Marquer le Territoire / Territorial Re-Marks″ at the Front Room Gallery in Brooklyn. Havre's 2013 show at the Textile Museum of Canada, a collaboration with artist Heather Goodchild, drew controversy when the Toronto Star's review of the show contrasted the perceived restraint of Goodchild's work with the "exotic" character of Havre's work, calling the latter a "screed against colonial superiority." The Beaux-Arts de Paris is a French ''grande école'' whose primary mission is to provide high-level arts education and training. This is classical and historical School of Fine Arts in France. Frances Dorsey is a former American ice skater who, during the 1950s, competed at both national and international levels and subsequently had a career with the Ice Follies. Competition She competed in the U.S. National Championships, placing 2nd in 1952 and 3rd in 1954. Competing twice in the World Championships during the same period, she placed 11th in 1951 and 5th in 1954. Camille Turner
Camille Turner (born 11 March 1960) is a Canadian media and performance artist, curator, and educator. She has exhibited nationally and internationally, particularly concerning the subject of Canadian Identity. Early life Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Turner immigrated to Canada when she was nine, first to Sarnia, and then Hamilton, Ontario. Her childhood experience of living in Canada was marked by a feeling of otherness; other children's racial taunts created a sense that she didn't belong. Turner has said, "no matter how long I live in Canada, no matter that I've lived here most of my life, when will I ever be Canadian? The feeling of otherness is so common." Simultaneously, Canada was the place where she and her mother and sister became reunited with her father, a boilermaker who made his living working in Hamilton's steel industry. Cauleen Smith (born September 25, 1967) is an American born filmmaker and multimedia artist. She is best known for her experimental works that address the African-American identity, specifically the issues facing black women today. Smith is best known for her feature film ''Drylongso''. Smith currently teaches in the School of Art at the California Institute of the Arts. Education In 1991 Smith completed her B.A in Cinema at San Francisco State University. Ed Pien
Ed Pien (born February 23, 1958) is a Canadian contemporary artist, known for his drawings and large-scale drawing-based installations inspired by multiple sources (Inuit as well as European and Chinese) and traditions, printmaking, paper cuts and video and photography. Life Pien was born in 1958 in Taipei, Taiwan, emigrating to Canada at the age of 11 with his family. At a young age, he began to draw and feels drawing propels everything he does. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Western Ontario (1982) and a Master of Fine Arts from York University (1984). The Ottawa Art Gallery (OAG) is a municipal gallery in Ottawa, Ontario that opened in 1988 at Arts Court. Art Gallery Of Peterborough
The Art Gallery of Peterborough is a free admission, non-profit public art gallery in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. A registered charity that depends on the support of its members, it was founded in 1974 by an independent board of volunteers.
