Juxtlahuaca District
Juxtlahuaca District is located in the southwest of the Mixteca Region of the State of Oaxaca, Mexico. The largest town is Santiago Juxtlahuaca. The district is at an average elevation of 1,690 meters above sea level, and has an area of 1,848 km2. It is divided into seven municipalities, and as of 2005 had 281 settlements with a total population of 72,176. History Juxtlahuaca district was created by decree on 14 October 1868. It was briefly merged into the Silacayoapan district in January 1872, then restored in December 1872. In December 1906 the district was merged into the Tlaxiaco district, but on 23 January 1932 the district was finally restored. Climate and economy The climate is temperate, with average temperature of 21°C. Rainfall is variable, mainly between June and September, and ranging fr4om 600mm to 2,200mm. Mixteca Region, Oaxaca
The Mixteca Region is a region in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico, part of the broader La Mixteca area which covers parts of the states of Puebla, Guerrero and Oaxaca. The region includes the districts of Juxtlahuaca, Silacayoapam, Huajuapan, Coixtlahuaca, Teposcolula, Tlaxiaco and Nochixtlán. The largest cities are Huajuapan and Tlaxiaco. According to the 1990 census the region had 556,256 people over the age of five, of which 227,680 spoke Mixteco. Handicrafts The Mixteca produce diverse handicrafts including cups, masks, cotton and wool textiles such as towels, blankets, blouses, bags, belts, petticoats, embroidered shirts, cotton and wool shawls, reed baskets, furniture, candles, ceramics of different clays for different purposes, saddlery, rockets, knives, iron, grinding stones, brooms and fine palm hats. Santiago Juxtlahuaca is a town and municipality in Oaxaca in south-western Mexico. Juxtlahuaca Municipalities
Juxtlahuaca is a cave and archaeological site in the Mexican state of Guerrero containing murals linked to the Olmec motifs and iconography. Along with the nearby Oxtotitlán cave, Juxtlahuaca walls contain the earliest sophisticated painted art known in Mesoamerica, and only known example of non-Maya deep cave art in Mesoamerica. San Martín Peras is a town and Municipalities of Oaxaca, municipality in Oaxaca about 157 mi (252 km) south of Mexico City which is the country's capital city.
