Justus (died 627) was the fourth Archbishop of Canterbury. Justus
Justus (died on 10 November between 627 and 631) was the fourth Archbishop of Canterbury. He was sent from Italy to England by Pope Gregory the Great, on a mission to Christianize the Anglo-Saxons from their native paganism, probably arriving with the second group of missionaries despatched in 601. Justus became the first Bishop of Rochester in 604, and attended a church council in Paris in 614. Following the death of King Æthelberht of Kent in 616, Justus was forced to flee to Gaul, but was reinstated in his diocese the following year. In 624 Justus became Archbishop of Canterbury, overseeing the despatch of missionaries to Northumbria. After his death he was revered as a saint, and had a shrine in St Augustine's Abbey, Canterbury. Justus Carl Hasskarl (6 December 1811 – 5 January 1894) was a German explorer and botanist specializing in Pteridophytes, Bryophytes and Spermatophytes. He was co-founder of the Society of Natural Curiosities of India, in Bavaria and spent his time researching flora of Indonesia for years. Justus Thigpen (born August 13, 1947) is an American former professional basketball player. Career Thigpen was selected by the San Diego Rockets in the 11th round of the 1969 NBA draft. Thigpen played for the following teams: Pittsburgh Pipers (1969–70 ABA season), Detroit Pistons (1972–73 NBA season), and Kansas City-Omaha Kings (1973–74 NBA season). In 1972–73, he was playing for the Flint Pros of the Continental Basketball Association when he signed with Detroit. In the 1973–74 season, he was again playing for Flint before he joined Kansas City-Omaha for three weeks. After his stint with the Kings, he learned that the Pros had folded. Justus Smith Stearns (April 10, 1845 – February 14, 1933) was an American lumber baron and businessman. He was involved in many enterprises that involved commercial real estate development, sawmills, coal, farming, railroading, and electrical technology. He started his lumber pursuits as a teenager at his father's sawmills. From the business knowledge he learned from his father he became a lumber merchant in his twenties. Stearns, as a dealer, was associated with his wealthy brother-in-law Eber Brock Ward as a vendor to lumberyard suppliers. Later in his thirties he moved to Michigan to manage Ward's lumber operations he had going there that at that time was inherited by Ward's widow. Justus Kane Sheffield (born May 13, 1996) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Seattle Mariners organization. He previously played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the New York Yankees. He was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the first round of the 2014 MLB draft. Johann Georg Justus Perthes (11 September 1749, Rudolstadt, Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt – 2 May 1816, Gotha, Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg) was a German publisher and founder of the publishing house that bears his name. Life He was born in the Thuringian town of Rudolstadt, the son of a Schwarzburg court physician. From 1778 he worked as a bookseller in nearby Gotha, where he founded the cartographic publishing firm ''Justus Perthes Geographische Anstalt Gotha'' in 1785. In this, he was joined in 1814 by his son Wilhelm Perthes (1793–1853), who had been in the publishing house of Justus's nephew Friedrich Christoph Perthes at Hamburg. Justus Mühlenpfordt (22 April 1911 – 2 October 2000) was a German nuclear physicist. He received his doctorate from the '' Technische Hochschule Carolo-Wilhelmina zu Braunschweig'', in 1936. He then worked in Gustav Hertz's laboratory at Siemens. In 1945, he was sent to Institute G, near Sukhumi and under the directorship of Hertz, to work on the Soviet atomic bomb project. Released from Soviet Union, Mühlenpfordt arrived in East Germany in 1955. He was appointed director of the ''Institut für physikalische Stofftrennung'' of the Academy of Sciences, in Leipzig. Justus Möser (14 December 1720 – 8 January 1794) was a German jurist and social theorist, best known for his innovative history of Osnabrück which stressed social and cultural themes. Biography Möser was born in Osnabrück. Having studied law at the universities of Jena and Göttingen, he settled in his native town as a lawyer and was soon appointed ''advocatus patriae'' (state attorney) by his fellow citizens. From 1762 to 1768 he was ''justiciarius'' (chief justice) of the criminal court in Osnabrück, and in 1768 was made Geheimer Referendar (privy councillor of justice).
